ODOT Library</a> serves as a technical information resource for the entire Oregon Department of Transportation. The library also provides transportation-specific information and research assistance for other state, county, and local government agencies, and
is open to the public via phone, email, or in-person by appointment.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">In addition to technical engineering and transportation publications, journals and standards, the library houses the
<a href="http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/TD/TP_RES/Pages/ODOT-History-Center.aspx">ODOT History Center</a>, which offers a unique collection of historical photos, reports, maps, and documents covering the 100+ year history of the agency. This collection offers resources
often tapped by authors and researchers interested in the progression of the highway system within the state. The library offers interlibrary loans without charge through OCLC (symbol OTT). Outside requests involving extensive research may be subject to a
<a href="http://www.odot.state.or.us/forms/odot/admin731/0489.pdf">Public Records Request</a>.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">As is the case with most transportation libraries, the ODOT Library has a solo librarian, so networking and collaboration is very important in order to serve such a large,
diverse customer base. The Transportation Division of the Special Libraries Association maintains a listserv allowing communication between members, and librarian Laura Wilt serves as chair-elect of that division. Other networking organizations allow for collaborative
projects, including a current program creating a collection of LibGuides focused on topics of interest to the transportation community.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

you ever received a question from an angry patron who received traffic violation in the mail for running a red light? Did you know that all Oregon municipalities utilizing a photo red light system are required to submit a “process and outcome” evaluation report
to the Legislature each odd numbered year (ORS 810.434)? Where can these reports be found?</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">We are not far into the 2015 Legislative Session and undoubtedly, the Oregon State Legislature will enact bills that mandate reports be created on a number of different
topics. What about reports that were mandated by prior legislatures? Unfortunately, not all mandated reports are created and not all were collected. Recognizing this issue, the Legislature passed
<a href="http://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/lawsstatutes/2011orLaw0380.html">
2011 HB 3105</a> and the Oregon State Library created a resource to provide ongoing access to these required reports.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

February 10th, legislators and other stakeholders attended the Summer Learning Summit at the Salem Convention Center, sponsored by
<a href="http://www.oregonask.org/">OregonASK</a>. They learned about <a href="http://www.oregonask.org/sites/default/files/external_files/Summer%20Learning%20Graphic.pdf">
summer learning loss</a> and how it can be prevented by providing underserved youth access to expanded learning opportunities, nutritional lunches, library materials, and the summer reading program at their local elementary school—<a href="http://www.oregonask.org/articles/summer-learning-summer-library-summer-lunch#overlay-context=">the
SL3 program</a>. The desired outcome of the summit was the following: Through advocacy, key stakeholders and communities will acknowledge that poverty and lack of access have a significantly negative impact on children and youth. Poverty and lack of access
increase summer learning loss and perpetuate the opportunity gap</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Highlights of the Summer Learning Summit include a keynote address by Matthew Boulay, the founder of the National Summer Learning Association, and a panel discussion facilitated
by MaryKay Dahlgreen which included Heather McNeil (Deschutes Public Library), Robin Rolfe (James John Elementary School Library), and Nancy Albritton (Central 13J school libraries).</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
