<p class="style10"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The Oregon State Library Board will meet on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Beaverton City Library in Beaverton. The Board will consider a recommendation from the Library Services
 and Technology Act Advisory Council for a database purchase and from the Talking Book and Braille Library Advisory Council about expenditure of donation funds in 2015-16. The Board will also discuss the implementation of House Bill 3523, the performance management
 process for the State Librarian, and the Board self-evaluation. The next board meeting will be held on Friday, August 21st at the Deschutes Public Library in Bend.</span><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

 Because I Love You.” She will receive a $200 check from the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress, and her letter will be featured on the national Letters About Literature

 Children’s Services Division of the Oregon Library Association (OLA) selected Katie Anderson to receive the 2015 Evelyn Sibley Lampman Award. The award was established in 1982 to honor an Oregon author, librarian, or educator who has made a significant contribution
 to Oregon in the fields of children’s literature and library services. This year's award was presented at the OLA Conference in Eugene in April 2015.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Katie has been the Youth Services Consultant at the Oregon State Library since 2006. MaryKay Dahlgreen summed up Katie’s outstanding contributions as follows: “Katie is
 deeply committed to excellent library service for children and their caregivers and is an excellent spokesperson for that in all corners of our state.” In the presentation of her award, her library colleagues’ praised her knowledge and responsiveness, emphasizing

 Library Services Advisory Council. Council members advise staff on strategies for better serving the information and reference needs of Oregon state government agencies. The Council also assists staff in creating effective strategies and programs to inform
 state employees about services and to train state employees in the use of these services. We are very excited to have Matt, Jeannette, and Donna as new members. Matt works as an Implementation Team Lead with the Oregon Health Authority, Jeannette is an Operations
 and Policy Analyst with the Department of Human Services, and Donna works as a Crash Data Technician for the Department of Transportation.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

 Anderson, student office worker for Government Information and Library Services at the Oregon State Library, graduates from Western Oregon University in June. Kate’s dual degree is a BS in Gerontology and a minor in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology, along
 with a BS in Public Policy and Administration with a Health Policy Concentration.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Kate has worked at the State Library for nearly three years (July would have been her third anniversary). Her regular duties are shelving and assisting with projects in
 Technical Services. In addition to those duties, Kate did a number of special projects: correcting item locations in the online catalog, weeding, shifting, and inputting hundreds of brief catalog records for Oregon Vertical File folders. All of this work significantly
 enhanced access to OSL’s collections.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Kate says her favorite task is shelving: “It is calming to me and I get to listen to music.” Her least favorite is vacuuming in the stacks.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Besides being known for her excellent work, Kate is also legendary for the fabulous cupcakes she brings for special occasions. She says she particularly likes baking cupcakes
 with fillings: “It brings an extra level to the cupcake flavor in the end and it keeps me in the kitchen longer.” But her all-time favorite is Key lime with graham-cracker crust.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Government Information and Library Services manager Margie Harrison says “Kate always seems to have a smile on her face. You’d think that five months of shifting over
 2,000 shelves of materials in unusually warm stacks would dampen her spirits, but not Kate. With her upbeat and can-do attitude, she keeps us all smiling.”</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Staff member Robby Pietz, who has worked with Kate on several projects, says she is “…an outstanding, hard working and dedicated part of this agency; her presence will
 be greatly missed.”</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span class="style101"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">After graduation, Kate hopes to get a job with the Oregon Department of Justice. Her goals also include a law degree.</span></span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

 to plan for future technology needs. The Edge Toolkit provides an online assessment (2-4 hours to complete), live webinars on topics directly related to improving your services, programs, and leadership skills, an online planning tool, and supplementary resources

 Oregon's statewide virtual reference service, which lets anyone connect to a librarian by live chat, email or text messaging, will be transitioning from
<a href="https://multcolib.org/">Multnomah County Library</a> to the <a href="http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/pages/index.aspx">
Oregon State Library</a>. The Oregon State Library Board of Trustees met on December 5, 2014 and voted unanimously in support of moving the administration of Answerland from Multnomah County Library to the Oregon State Library. On July 1st, Answerland will
 officially move to the Oregon State Library. Activities around acquiring new software and a new permanent position at the State Library to coordinate the Answerland service are moving forward. The current Answerland software will remain in use through the
 end of September.</span></span><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><br>
