Bryn Geffert, Librarian of the College at Amherst College, will present:<br><br></div>"An Imperfect Effort to Build the Perfect Academic Press"<br><br>Frustrated with the academy's growing inability to disseminate
literature to those who need it, worried about the lack of outlets for
evaluating and certifying innovative digital scholarship, and itching to
bring the voices of liberal arts colleges to an industry dominated by
research institutions, 41 liberal arts colleges have banded together to
form the Lever Press. Working with the Amherst College Press and the
University of Michigan Press, this new initiative has committed to
producing sixty works over the course of five years--all rigorously
peer-reviewed and edited, and all disseminated free of charge under
Creative Commons licenses. How we arrived at this point, where we've
succeeded, where we've failed, and where we hope to end up. <br><br></div>The lecture will be held at 3pm at Diane Gregg Pavilion.
