Simply put, we want to pit Crook County Library's adult readers against your library's adult readers and do some kind of friendly competition between our library and another Oregon library. </p>

Motivating adult SRP registrants to keep reading and attending programs through the program has always been a bit of a challenge for us. We think introducing an element of competition (and a little bit of drama) between Crook County Library and another Oregon

 library might help. And if it doesn't help, we'll at least have some fun!</p>

CCL has had great success partnering with other Oregon libraries on Summer Reading-related competitions in the past. Way back before ebooks complicated things, we did an annual who-can-read-the-most-pages competition with Jefferson County. In 2015, we competed

 with Driftwood in a Batman vs. Superman dressup contest. Admittedly, the latter one was more for kids (each library had a cardboard cutout of a superhero that we dressed in a fresh costume every week) but we had tons of fun coming up with something new every

 week and drawing out the Facebook drama.</p>

Obviously, there's a lot of different ways we could do this. Some of the ideas floated by my colleagues have included...</p>

<li style=""><font face="Helvetica, sans-serif">Who can read the most hours? Good because we could track it with one of those big wall thermometers, or maybe a gradually rising wall to match the "Build a Better World" theme.</li><li style=""><font face="Helvetica, sans-serif">Who can read and recommend the most books?

Could do some kind of activity to facilitate communication between patrons at both libraries (postcard exchange, Facebook discussion group, etc.)</li><li style=""><font face="Helvetica, sans-serif">How many people can meet [reading goal]?

For our teen summer reading program, we are asking participants to do a modified version of the Reading Without Walls challenge (read a book about a character who doesn't look/live like you, read a book about a new topic, and read a book in a new format).

 We could do something similar for adults and turn it into a numbers derby.</font></li></ul>
