State Library of Oregon is encouraging libraries to consider ways to promote participation in the 2020 Census in your community. Much of the
<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://gwipp.gwu.edu/sites/g/files/zaxdzs2181/f/downloads/IPP-1819-3%20CountingforDollars_OR.pdf">federal funding Oregon receives</a></span>, including the funding the State Library receives from the Institute of Museum
and Library Services (IMLS), is allocated based on the population data collected during the Census. Getting an accurate count makes a big difference in the resources we receive at the state, county, and city level.

<p>Folks have lots of questions about the upcoming Census and now is a great time to get more familiar with what will be happening when the Census rolls out in March-April 2020. Check out the resources listed on the State Library’s
<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/census2020/promotional-materials">Census 2020 guide</a></span>, plus keep your eyes open for a webinar designed specifically for Oregon libraries in the upcoming months.

<p>To focus promotion and outreach efforts, it may be helpful to learn more about the areas in your community that are considered “<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://www.censushardtocountmaps2020.us/#info-about">hard to count</a></span>”. These areas
are determined by the response rates from the 2010 Census. A <span class="MsoHyperlink">
<a href="https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/census2020/community-outreach">list of Oregon counties</a></span> with hard to count areas is available on the Census 2020 guide. The list include links to maps that show specific census tracts and nearby libraries.
The maps also provide basic demographic information for each hard to count area. To view, click on the tract in the map and then select the
<b>Tract</b> option on the Left menu. Maps are from the <span class="MsoHyperlink">
<a href="https://www.censushardtocountmaps2020.us/" target="_blank">Census 2020 Hard to Count Map</a></span> project developed by the
<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="http://www.gc.cuny.edu/urbanresearchmaps" target="_blank">CUNY Mapping Service</a></span> at the
<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="http://www.gc.cuny.edu" target="_blank">City University of New York's Graduate Center</a></span>.<o:p></o:p></p>
