<p class="MsoNormal">The <a href="https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/ld.php?content_id=50042665">2019 Annual Report on Challenges to Intellectual Freedom in Oregon Libraries & Schools</a> is now available.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The <a href="https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/oifc">Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse</a> (OIFC) collects reports about challenges to intellectual freedom in all types of Oregon libraries and schools. Entities report the information
to OIFC on a voluntary basis. Intellectual freedom issues include, but are not limited to: materials challenges, internet filters, patron privacy and confidential records, hate crimes, and services (public meeting room use, exhibits, programs, etc.). <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This past year there were 54 challenges at 25 entities in Oregon, of which three were hate crimes and five were library service challenges. Read the report for details!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I encourage you to incorporate the titles of the challenged materials in your <a href="https://bannedbooksweek.org/">Banned Books Week</a> displays and activities. Many people may not realize that book banning is <i>not</i> a thing from
the past, or that attempts to ban books are made every year right here in Oregon. <o:p></o:p></p>
