During my discussions with Native American youth and Two-Spirit and Native LGBTQIA+ community members, I heard time and again that building support and resources for Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ community members continues to be a priority across Indian Country. Many of us are seeking to better understand and reclaim traditional values, culture, and languages; all of which help strengthen our communities to resist centuries of settler colonialism and colonized thinking that devalue our right to thrive. Together, tribal leaders, Native youth councils, and other organizing groups are building sustainable relationships through shared Indigenous knowledge.<br>
<br>
To support this positive momentum in Indian Country, I teamed up with three amazing Two-Spirit and Queer Native youth to create a new resource – a Toolkit – to support leaders who want to build inclusion in our communities. This interactive tool assists youth collectives, community leaders, and partners to better understand and support our Two-Spirit and Native LGBTQIA+ relatives. We named it <i>Indigenizing Love</i> and it is my hope is that this resource will help us reclaim Indigenous knowledge about genders and love, and ultimately help us become better partners to support our Two-Spirit and Native LGBTQIA+ communities. <br>

The <i>Indigenizing Love </i>Toolkit — produced by Western States Center in partnership with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, the Center for Native American Youth, and Native Youth Leadership Alliance — initiates conversations that build understanding from an Indigenous perspective about gender roles and identity, and provides discussion guides and resources to promote inclusion efforts and create systemic change that will positively impact the next seven generations.<br>
<br>
Together, we can encourage communities in Indian Country and beyond to honor and become more inclusive of our Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ relatives. To do this, we must actively acknowledge and reclaim our cultures and languages, and take action to Indigenize Love. I hope this resource lives up to its aspirations — and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.<br>
