<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#333333"><a href="http://www.ala.org/groups/committees/ala/ala-profethic" title="http://www.ala.org/groups/committees/ala/ala-profethic">ALA's Committee on Professional Ethics (COPE)</a> is looking for feedback from the
library community about an update to the ALA Code of Ethics. In July 2020, the COPE voted to establish a working group to explore the creation of a new principle of the
<a href="http://www.ala.org/tools/ethics" title="http://www.ala.org/tools/ethics">
ALA <i>Code of Ethics</i></a> to address racial and social justice. In collaboration with member groups of the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach, a working group was created. The working group is co-chaired by Andrew Harant and Sheri Edwards and the
members are Nicole Cooke, Alexandra Gomez, Sarah Houghton, Nancy Kirkpatrick, Liladhar Pendse, and Jennifer Shimada. This group has drafted a ninth principle for the ALA
<i>Code of Ethics</i> that states our profession's responsibility to support and advance racial and social justice and its obligation to ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion.
