In order to help facilitate work being done in libraries toward anti-racist, anti-oppressive librarianship, the OLA Technical Services Roundtable (TRST) has created a space for collaboration on working to
select respectful and inclusive language in catalog records, including choosing language that people use to describe themselves.

The Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) comprise a subject vocabulary widely used in libraries for organizing and collecting information resources. LCSH facilitate a user's search for resources with
similar subject matter. However, the process for proposing new terms or revising existing terms can be slow. The vocabulary also perpetuates bias. The consistency and interoperability of LCSH is good, but sometimes replacement or supplemental terms are necessary.

It is our hope that this subject heading repository will allow for less duplication of efforts by libraries, be helpful for institutions doing this important work, as well as be a catalyst for change within
libraries to make catalogs inclusive for all.

The goal of this sheet is to help institutions identify subject headings and language within their catalogs that should be either added, removed, or changed to better enhance discovery
of diversity titles within our catalogs. There are terms currently used within our bibliographic data that is culturally insensitive and it is our role as catalogers to use anti-racist, anti-oppressive language to support the diverse titles within our collections.
Additionally, there are terms that are historically left out of catalogs, leading to lesser discovery of our diverse titles. It is our responsibility to allow for enhanced discovery of those titles within our keyword search capabilities.

This is an open-source repository of terms. As our library institutions grow in understanding of sensitivity in our catalogs, this tool is available to share this knowledge with others. As your library makes
