<a href="https://www.imls.gov/news/imls-convene-federal-information-literacy-taskforce">
formation of a taskforce and its development of a website</a>, which will host resources for libraries as they address community needs through programming and resources that might have an information literacy component. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Last month, I was one of the invited guests at one of four feedback gathering sessions of the
<span style="color:black"><a href="https://www.imls.gov/">Institute of Museum and Library Services’</a> federal taskforce on information literacy. We talked a lot about the broadness of the term information literacy, what resources might be helpful, and what
the website might look like. In this context, </span></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt">information literacy skills refer to the skills associated with empowering individuals to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information effectively (
<em><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">e.g.,</span></em> navigating information to learn a new trade or applying information to clarify decision options).</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Today, <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/07/25/2023-15665/request-for-information-rfi-information-literacy-programs-resources-and-promising-practices">
IMLS issued an invitation for input</a></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> from stakeholders, experts, communities, and members of the public, including libraries.
</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt">IMLS seeks to identify information literacy-related resources and programs that could inform the development of a website to disseminate successful practices on information literacy programs and related tools.
</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt">They’re looking for feedback in four main topic areas, with more specific questions in each area:
