Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for having us at the LSTA Coordinators’ meeting just now! Here are the notes of the IMLS announcements. Let me know if you need any clarifications:

IMLS update:

· There are a number of ALA sessions with IMLS/SLAA people in them that you might be interested in:

o Live session Saturday, at 1:30-2pm Central time, featuring IMLS Director Crosby Kemper and ALA outgoing president, Julius Jefferson, titled “Realms of possibility”

o Three on-demand sessions:

o The Impact of the CARES Act on Library Services Through IMLS Grants –

§ Featuring 2 state librarians: Melody Kellogg of Oklahoma and Jason Broughton of Vermont, along with two discretionary grantees and IMLS staff, Madison Bolls and Anthony Smith

o Modernization of IMLS Grant Program Evaluation and Monitoring Capabilities – with IMLS staff Anthony Smith and Matt Birnbaum

o Show Me the Money: Tips for Writing Successful IMLS Grant Applications – with IMLS staff Jill Connors-Joyner and Sarah Fuller

o Plus a number of sessions featuring IMLS grantees – if you visit the IMLS virtual booth, we have a listing of all of them

· Thank you for keeping your State info updated in the SPR! We’ve had a lot of personnel changes in the states lately and it helps us ensure we’re getting information to the right people.

· Virtual site visits are going well (MF has done: FL, VA, NE, IL, WY, UT and will do OK, TX and SD; MB has done CA, HI, CT and will do DC, MD, AZ and MI and territories; DN has done NH, IN, PA, NM, LA, WV and will do MN, TN, AK).

· Evaluation SPR data is forthcoming (FY 18 & 19), will email it to each state and start setting up the evaluator community of practice

· Shift in National Book Festival approach this year – still virtual, but over longer span of Sept. 17-26, 2021, encouraging local events and watch parties, and filling out the survey if you or your libraries are planning to do something locally. No pressure!!

· American Rescue Plan Act competitive NOFO released May 26, deadline of June 28; $15M available. Successful projects will address community needs created or exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and in assisting with recovery, such as:

o Advancing digital inclusion

o Hiring new staff and training or retraining existing staff

o Building community-focused partnerships, networks, and alliances

o Supporting the creation and delivery of online and in-person educational programs

o Providing trusted spaces for community engagement and dialogue

o Supporting efforts to collect, preserve, manage, and interpret documentary sources

· National Medal winners from libraries (3 this year, down from 5): Cabell County Public Library (Huntington, WV), Highwood Public Library (Highwood, IL), Memphis Public Libraries (TN)

o Museums, for reference: High Desert Museum (Bend, OR), Mississippi Children's Museum (Jackson, MS), Museo de Arte de Ponce (Ponce, PR)

o You’re invited to save the date and join us for the 1-hour virtual ceremony on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 - 4:00pm Eastern

· 2019 Public Libraries Survey data released in May 2021: https://imls.gov/news/imls-releases-2019-data-american-public-libraries

· IMLS launched Conversations with Crosby this spring, which you can view on the IMLS YouTube channel. We expect more throughout the summer, and first conversations have covered Churchill today, Hollywood, and the former NEA director, Jane Chu

· IMLS is revisiting its strategic plan and will invite comments through a Federal Register notice in mid-July. We’ll plan to send that link out to states and share the new goals. Conceptually, they are not that different from our prior plan, but we have new objectives and strategies below them that reflect some new emphases.

Best,
Madison

Teri,

Thank you for letting me know. You will be missed! I’d be glad to have other G2S staff attend and update our group on IMLS happenings. I’m afraid that registration is required for the conference to attend any of the sessions. I’ll look forward to having Madison and Laura report.

Safe travels,
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

I wanted to update you that while I’d hoped to attend this meeting at 1:15pm Eastern on Thursday, June 24 and give updates for IMLS, I’ve had an emergent travel conflict. The rest of the G2S staff are available/interested in attending (cc’d here), though not all are registered for the conference – do you know if that’s a requirement? If so, Madison and Laura will be your POCs for IMLS for this meeting and give the updates. If it’s a zoom link you share more widely, you might expect to see all of them in attendance on Thursday.

I hope the meeting goes wonderfully, and thank you, as always, for organizing it!
Teri

LSTA Coordinators,

For those of you “attending” ALA Annual, our interest group meeting will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 12:15-1:13 Central Time. I believe this may be in close proximity to the Library Development Group meeting (hopefully not in conflict with it!). So far I’ve heard from Jean in Colorado, Lori in New Hampshire, Katie in Delaware, Wendy in Georgia, Wendy in South Carolina, Chris in Connecticut and Teri at IMLS that they will be attending. Please let me know if you’ll be there too!
