I would consider this is a mobility device, and therefore a medical device, and not covered by the scope of your grant.

WARNING - This email originated from outside the State of Nevada. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
This is excellent timing - having the same request come up in our grant applications! I am leaning towards no, though I am very invested in other opinions on this as well. The points Maura brings up are great.

Yep, this is a new one. My first thought is “nice try” (although it would be interesting to see their justification).

Oh, my, what will they think of next?
Is it an enormous library? Are the scooters like those used in supermarkets for shopping? (baskets to collect their books?) Are the open stacks really large enough to allow them to be maneuvered on a scooter? What about safety concerns? And liability? Why would scooters be better than whatever the user has used to get into the library in the first place?
At the very least, this should prove an interesting thread for a Monday. 😊

Subject: [lstac] Allowability question
I have an grant applicant who wants to include electric scooters as part of an information accessibility grant. These would be used in the library building. That sounds more like a building accessibility item/furnishing being shoehorned into the grant guidelines. Has anyone had this type of purchase come up? Did you consider it a furnishings issue and unallowable or did you approve it?
It feels like too much to me.
