Dear Partners and Friends,
I am sorry to share that Califa received notification last night that our grant has been cancelled. Attached is a copy of the cancellation letter.
It's incredibly sad and frustrating. I know we were all holding out hope that this project would be allowed to continue.
Because the grant is cancelled, there can't be any reimbursements clearly. Nathan sent letters last week to all libraries that are in the middle of programming or about to begin programming to let them know that the grant was suspended (at that point) and that if they continued to implement their creative aging programs under this project that it would be at their own expense. Many shared that they were going to stay the course (again at their own expense) and also shared heartfelt notes of solidarity.
We are still getting more details but wanted to let you know asap. Veronda and I will also work to get some further clarification on the last line of the letter: Please remember that your obligations under the Grant Agreement continue to apply. An audit may be conducted by IMLS after the termination of the agreement.
We have accomplished a great deal in the past 2+ years to embed creative aging in libraries across Missouri and Wyoming, raise awareness of the benefits of this work to older adults, communities and libraries, and support library workers in developing culturally responsive and sustainable programs. Not to mention, we have collectively built a strong partnership that serves as a example of how to coordinate and scale this work. I want to thank all of you for being such champions of creative aging and committed collaborators. And I especially want to recognize Nathan on our staff for managing this project with such care.
Nathan and I will be in touch about any next steps but I wanted to share the news with you asap.
With gratitude,
Heather
