[lstac] New DOJ Guidance Regarding Unlawful Discrimination and DEI Programs

Hello all,

You may have already seen this, but I wanted to share just in case. The US
Attorney General released new guidance
<https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-releases-guidance-recipients-federal-funding-regarding-unlawful>
regarding unlawful discrimination and DEI programs for any agencies that
receive federal funds. I was concerned about the implication for subgrants
and library programming. I sent it to Dennis and here was his response:

Thanks for this excellent and finger-on-the-pulse question 😊 We will
inform you if anything changes, but as of right now you can feel free to
continue to follow the guidance and certifications that are currently in
place when your awards were given.



For what it’s worth, there’s also this excerpt in the DOJ guidance that
serves as a helpful qualifier: “*This guidance identifies "Best Practices"
as non-binding suggestions to help entities comply with federal
antidiscrimination laws and avoid legal pitfalls; these are not mandatory
requirements but rather practical recommendations to minimize the risk of
violations.”*
