[Mdt_members] Announcing Karly's Law Training Video!

Dear MDT Members,

The Oregon Network of Child Abuse Intervention Centers and the Oregon Department of Justice are pleased to introduce “What You Need to Know about Karly’s Law,” a training video for Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members in Oregon and anyone at the MDT member agency who is involved in child abuse investigations. This video, made possible by funding from the Children’s Justice Act Task Force Subcommittee of the Child Welfare Advisory Council, is available online at http://www.childabuseintervention.org/karlyslaw/.  DVDs of the video will be mailed to CAC directors and MDT chairpersons shortly for use as outreach and training tools.  Attached and included with the DVD is an introduction letter from Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum.
The video is intended to promote a basic understanding of Karly’s Law and its requirements. Karly’s Law imposes specific statutory requirements on first responders (law enforcement and Department of Human Services child protective service workers) and Medical Providers.

MDT members, including but not limited to those required to participate in the MDT under ORS 418.747(1), must view the video and complete the online quiz that follows the video.  MDTs are encouraged to share the training with community partners, particularly medical providers who may have contact with children.

We strongly encourage you to use this video as a training tool and for community outreach. Build it into your local orientation practices, have new MDT members watch it and talk about it with them. We also hope that you will share this video in community forums to promote discussion or awareness about physical abuse.
