Importance: High

  Dear Friends:
I have been working closely with our U.S. Congress to address opportunities to promote improving the prevention and response to violent crime victims within all five major sports leagues in America. Our beloved U.S. Congressional Victims' Rights Caucus has taken the lead on this issue, and has drafted five letters to be sent to the Commissioners of all five leagues.
THEY NEED YOUR HELP! The Caucus is circulating the cover letter below, along with the five letters to the Leagues, and asking Congress Members to join as signatories. We are asking that you contact your Congress Member ASAP, and ask him/her to sign onto the bipartisan Costa-Poe-Maloney-Har tzler letters by this Friday, September 26th. Let me clear, we are not asking for YOU to sign on but, rather, to get your Congress Member on board as a signatory. When you make the request, please ask them to contact Andy Flick (andy.flick at mail.house.gov<mailto:andy.flick at mail.house.gov> or x53341) to add their name to the letter or for more information. The deadline, again, is this Friday, September 26th.
You can easily identify your Congress Member by visiting http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ and entering your zip code, which will take you to his/her webpage. AND you can also visit the U.S. Congressional Victims' Rights Caucu s website at http://vrc.poe.house.gov/index.cfm/vrc-members PRIOR to your outreach; if your Member is not a Member of the wonderful Caucus, do encourage him/her to join - it's OUR VOICE IN OUR CONGRESS!
As always, I thank you in advance for helping with this important special request AND for circulating this email as widely as possible. The Caucus would love to have hundreds of Congress Members on board with this critical initiative, and that can only happen with your help!
Your regularly scheduled Missive will be sent later today, THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!

URGE PRO SPORTS LEAGUES TO STRENGTHEN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND CHILD ABUSE POLICIES

Sign the bipartisan Costa-Poe-Maloney-Hartzler letters to NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, & MLS

**Deadline: Friday, Sept. 26th**

LETTER BEING CI RCULATED TO CONGRESSMEMBERS ASKING THEM TO SIGN ON

Dear Colleague:

Recent allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse within the world of professional sports have resulted in an important national dialogue about violence against women and children in America. When these vicious crimes are not properly addressed and when offenders are not held accountable, the cycles of violence continue, victims remain in constant jeopardy and fear, and the very lives of women and children are at stake.

Our nation's major sports leagues - the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association, and Major League Soccer - can use their profound platforms to move our society toward a future where violence against women and children is not acceptable

As Members of Congress committed to advocating for victims and survivors of crime, we invite you t o join us in calling on the "Big Five" in American professional sports to review their policies related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. The letters also urge the leagues to meet with crime victims and survivors, experts in the field of victims' rights, and victim advocates. When the policies and practices of professional sports leagues take the strongest possible stand against these crimes, everyone in America will understand that no one who commits violence against women and children can get away with it..

Please contact Andy Flick (andy.flick at mail.house.gov<mailto:andy.flick at mail.house.gov> or x53341) to add your name to the letter or for more information. Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

JIM COSTA
Member of Congress
