Partnering to Respond to Child Abuse

In this civil case, Plaintiff John Doe sued Boy Scouts of America Corporation (BSA) and in December 2014, after hearing evidence that plaintiff had endured repeated sexual assaults by his youth troop leader and that BSA had knowledge of widespread child sexual abuse, the jury awarded significant damages to the victim. BSA appealed. NCVLI and our co-amici argued that public policy justified imposing a duty on BSA to protect minors from foreseeable criminal acts, that youth serving organizations that ignore evidence of the danger of abuse and fail to warn are a cause of the abuse, and that the damages awarded were well supported. Program Changes
Wally's House is Open!

Curry County has had an Advocacy Team since 2001 which has operated out of the Curry County Courthouse and served victims of child abuse and neglect.  Over the last 10 months there have been several changes including moving to a new location and changing their name to Wally's House. At their new location, Wally's House will continue to offer forensic interviews and will soon be offering medical exams.

OJJDP Announces 2016 National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest
[MCDPoster2016]OJJDP invites fifth graders to participate in the 2016 National Missing Children's Day poster contest<https://n1.m.tt/a/weeptdfqd-lktgokww.html?utm_source=DynamicsMarketing&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=JUVJUST_MCDPoster2016_11252015>. The annual contest creates an opportunity for schools, law enforcement, and child advocates to discuss the issue of missing and/or exploited children with youth, parents, and guardians and to promote child safety.

OJJDP will invite the national winner, parents, and teacher to Washington, DC, to participate in the National Missing Children's Day commemoration in May 2016.

Submissions are due by March 16, 2016.

The training emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to sharing promising practices, current research, and effective programs and policies that are victim-centered, practice-based, and research-informed. Our National Training Institute is a forum for law enforcement, victim service professionals, allied practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to share current developments and build new collaborations.
