Special thanks to Governor Brown for renewing her annual proclamation that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The Children's Trust Fund of Oregon is proud to be Oregon's chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America and support the efforts of the 2016 Pinwheels for Prevention(r) Campaign during Child Abuse Prevention Month. Pinwheels for Prevention(r) is a nationwide public awareness campaign that features a blue pinwheel to represent the healthy, carefree childhood free from abuse and neglect we long to see for every child. Since the campaign began, over 5 million pinwheels have been displayed nationwide to promote a message of prevention and hope.
This year, we are thrilled to tell you that we have covered Oregon in silver and blue- over 15,000 pinwheels have been distributed to 35 counties, and over 100 local community organizations, businesses, hospitals, government offices, and individuals have joined the campaign.
There are two sides to every coin, and child abuse and neglect is no different. If we want to prevent abuse, we must promote great childhoods- something we can all agree is important and worthwhile.
In this spirit, we are asking our families, friends, and neighbors to support the cause and honor loved ones by taking photos of themselves with signs stating:
Because of _______________, I had a #GreatChildhood.

March 2016
We All Can Play a Part in Building Community and Building Hope:
A Note from the Executive Director
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, the National Children's Advocacy Center encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Huntsville/Madison/Madison County a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents and caregivers have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth and families in our communities. Research shows that protective factors are present in healthy families. Promoting these factors is among the most effective ways to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. They are:
* Nurturing and attachment
* Knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development
* Parental resilience
* Social connections
* Concrete supports for parents
* Social and emotional competence of children
In addition to diverse traditional child abuse prevention activities, the NCAC is all about prevention - even through our intervention services. If we are able to intervene effectively when a child discloses abuse, we can prevent the long term impacts of the abuse by providing services, and also prevent additional children from being harmed by an individual who has previously abused children. April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children and strengthening families, and everyone's participation is critical.
The NCAC is very excited to be partnering with Rosie's Mexican Cantina and Steakout during April to bring increased attention to the prevention of child abuse. They will be providing information to all customers dining in the restaurants, and including bag tags on all delivery orders. This dedication to the protection of children in our community serves as a great example of community involvement, and we are hopeful more businesses will want to participate in 2017. If you are interested in bringing increased awareness to this issue, please contact Cynthia Potts at 256-327-3780.
