[Image result for Safety First Kids]FIREARM SAFETY

Below are firearm safety materials provided by Meghan Crane, Zero Suicide Program Coordinator for OHA, that may be useful to your MDT and Child Fatality review teams.

http://oregonfirearmsafety.org/firearm-safety/ - For gun owners
http://oregonfirearmsafety.org/addressing-firearm-safety/ - Primary Care Fact Sheet

OHA Public Health Division also released a CD Summary that came out last month, A NEW Approach to Preventing Firearm Deaths<http://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/DISEASESCONDITIONS/COMMUNICABLEDISEASE/CDSUMMARYNEWSLETTER/Documents/2017/ohd6613.pdf>, which has a large emphasis on suicide deaths. The CD Summary<http://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/DISEASESCONDITIONS/COMMUNICABLEDISEASE/CDSUMMARYNEWSLETTER/Pages/index.aspx> is a publication of the Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division. Its intended audience is: licensed health care providers, public health and health care agencies, media representatives, medical laboratories, hospitals, and other individuals and institutions with an interest in epidemiology and public health interests. This CD summary includes links to Susan Key’s firearm safety materials (both for gun owners and primary care practitioners). You can sign up to receive the CD Summary at the above link.

Also attached is a research article that is the basis of the firearm safety materials. This work was done in Central Oregon by Dr. Susan Keys. An additional article on the work will be published soon.

Dear CAMI MDT Member,

We need your input. The CAMI Program is currently reviewing the CAMI Regional Service Providers grant. The following survey is intended to help clarify the needs of MDTs and CAICs around the state so that Regional Services can be adjusted to best meet those needs. The survey asks questions about both current services (outlined below) and other needs. Goals of this review include promotion of equal access to comparable services for across the state, standardization of resources and information whenever possible, and development and strengthening of support relationships statewide. All active MDT members are encouraged to complete the survey to provide a comprehensive picture of the needs of the state. We encourage you to share the survey link with anyone else in your agency or organization who is involved in the MDT response in your county. Please complete the survey by January 10, 2018 by following the link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y5ND8FR. The survey should take you about 5 minutes. Thank you for your time!

Course Description

This training provides case material on corroborating evidence. The presenters look at crime scene photos that show what the victim disclosed and then how the evidence was gathered. They explain in detail how corroborating evidence can be the difference between simply filing a case and obtaining a guilty verdict.

Expert Presenters

We would like to thank our presenters, Sergeant Richard Mankewich and Assistant State Attorney Kelly Hicks for this valuable training presentation.

Sgt. Richard Mankewich is a 26-year veteran with the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando Florida. Holding the rank of Sergeant for the past 18 years, Sergeant Mankewich supervised the Sex Crimes Squad for 12 year where he investigated, reviewed and oversaw over 14,000 sexually related cases.

Kelly Hicks is an Assistant State Attorney in the 9th Judicial Circuit of Florida. In January 2017, Kelly became the Chief of the Homicide Unit and the Director of Training for the 9th Judicial Circuit, and in in August 2017, she added the title of Chief of the Intake Unit. She has tried over 60 first-chair felony trials, including 10 homicide trials.

End Violence Against Women International

Vision Statement: We envision a world where gender-based violence is unacceptable; where perpetrators are held accountable, and victims receive the compassion, support, and justice they deserve.

Mission Statement: We inspire and educate those who respond to gender-based violence, equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to support victims and hold perpetrators accountable. We promote victim-centered, multidisciplinary collaboration, which strengthens the response of the criminal justice system, other professionals, allies, and the general public -- making communities safer.

Philosophies of Trans Inclusion
Tuesday, January 9th, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm(Pacific time)

This webinar will provide an opportunity for attendees and knowledgeable panelists to explore philosophies of transgender inclusion in anti-violence work. We will focus not on the HOW, but the WHY -- not how we make services more accessible to trans survivors, but how and why our movements can and should commit to transgender justice and ending/addressing violence against trans people. Opportunities abound for all organizations, not only culturally specific programs, to strengthen their philosophical and practical commitment to inclusive and accessible work. Understanding the why can help folks already committed to these ideals to engage others within their organizations and communities, and advocate for practical change.

[cid:image028.jpg at 01D38083.305A1F00]<http://www.westernregionalcac.org/>The Western Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (WRCAC) is expanding its training and technical assistance (TA) team and is seeking two skilled, motivated individuals to join in early 2018 as a State Liaison and a Tribal Liaison (see the attached job descriptions for detailed information):

The State Liaison and Tribal Liaison work collaboratively with other WRCAC project staff (based remotely and at the Chadwick Center in San Diego) to support the growth and development of children’s advocacy centers (CACs), multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) and state chapters responding to child abuse in the thirteen western states that comprise the western region. The Tribal Liaison guides WRCAC’s overall TA and training strategy to promote culturally relevant, quality, accessible services for American Indian and Alaskan Native communities.

Since October 2016, WRCAC is managed as a project of the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children’s Hospital - San Diego (RCHSD). The positions may be based in San Diego, or the selected candidates may work remotely from a home office, with travel expected approximately 60% of work time.

The positions are funded by a grant provided through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and contingent upon receipt of continued funding of WRCAC by the U.S. DOJ.

Please email wrcac at rchsd.org<mailto:wrcac at rchsd.org> for instructions on how to apply through the online Rady Children’s Hospital HR system.

Applications will be reviewed as they are submitted; for full consideration please apply by Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
