Each year at NTI, we aim to highlight the work being done by service providers, practitioners, advocates, and allied practitioners around the country.

We welcome workshop proposals on any topic that addresses how we can innovate victim services, achieve safety and justice, and build partnerships for critical collaborations.

The deadline for submissions is February 14.

Final selections will be determined based upon the educational content of the proposal, the uniqueness of the presentation, relevance, speaker expertise with the subject matter, and how well the workshop incorporates the conference theme.

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to use a victim-centered, practice-based, research-informed approach. Workshops are scheduled for 90 minutes in length, unless otherwise specified in the proposal. Accepted presenters will be assigned a day and presentation time by the Institute Planning Committee.

Individuals and organizations focused on the betterment of treatment for victims, their families, and their communities will share knowledge on achieving a more equitable world.

Victim services continues to evolve and intersect with a widening range of topics. NTI is a multidisciplinary forum that equips individuals and organizations across the country to better manage the ramifications of crime. Every year, NTI brings together service providers, advocates, community leaders, researchers, justice professionals, healthcare providers, and law enforcement to share stories, strategies, practices, and solutions.

Participants can choose from more than 80 interactive workshops and topical plenaries providing information, resources, and the opportunity to engage with others on issues critical to their work. Attendees leave the conference better prepared to approach their work in a way that is collaborative, culturally competent, and trauma-informed.

The New Child Maltreatment Report Is Now Available

To make a difference in preventing child abuse and neglect, we need to know what kind of maltreatment is occurring in the United States and to what extent.

The Child Maltreatment Report 2018<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__lists.icfwebservices.com_t_471049_4182309_49719_2_&d=DwMFAw&c=7gilq_oJKU2hnacFUWFTuYqjMQ111TRstgx6WoATdXo&r=EhCMCMLBJCEiaBIcjg19rrZiFit5o0aCt3xQPWV-Ers&m=vZ5eXNZiAD_bJbwCM5OR6xL7oR9QfXj-5IyXTL7EpE0&s=3JBuE-Kyri-NODwvqDJ_Besma3Ndn6dGNrBwznZh4OQ&e=> is the most recent collection of child maltreatment data from across the country. Since 1991, this important resource breaks down the data at the national and state levels and shows trends in data.

Here are the key findings from the 2018 report:

  *   The national rounded number of children who received a child protective services investigation response or alternative response increased 8.4 percent, from 3,261,000 in 2014 to 3,534,000 in 2018.

  *   The number and rate of victims have fluctuated during the past 5 years. There was an increase of 0.4 percent in the national rounded number of victims, from 675,000 in 2014 to 678,000 in 2018.

  *   The 2018 data show more than four-fifths of victims suffered a single type of maltreatment. Sixty percent were neglected only, 10.7 percent were physically abused only, and 7 percent were sexually abused only. More than 15 percent were victims of two or more maltreatment types.

  *   For 2018, an estimated 1,770 children died of abuse and neglect at a rate of 2.39 per 100,000 children in the national population.

 KIDS Center: Bilingual Prevention Specialist
Position is full-time with an excellent benefit package. This position is based out of the KIDS Center office in Bend, and includes traveling to Jefferson County and Crook County based on community and agency need with an priority on holding office hours in Jefferson County.  This position will include promoting and conducting all of KIDS Center’s prevention programs and trainings, data collection and entry, and outreach to rural communities to educate about KIDS Center and child abuse prevention.
