What would happen to your organization if your key leaders left suddenly?

For many organizations, this would have long-term negative consequences. This training presents several strategies to plan for changes in leadership and to develop your organization’s succession plans. This online, blended training is designed for those in leadership positions within victim-serving organizations.

The training will be delivered online, over the course of 3 weeks, beginning on July 6, 2020. Each week, except for the introductory week, will include a facilitated webinar.
There are recommended readings and videos as well as written assignments. You should expect to spend about an hour per week on the assignments, in addition to participating in the 75-minute webinar. CEUs will be awarded for those who complete all of the requirements.

Anita Carpenter
Durango, Colorado

Anita Carpenter is an independent consultant and trainer for victim services. Previously, she served for 15 years as the CEO of the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault, where she was responsible for grant writing, fundraising, public relations, public policy review, program development, event coordination, planning, evaluation, staff development, staff supervision, fiscal management, succession planning, and strategic planning. She served as an instructor for the 10-week, online, blended National Victim Assistance Academy Leadership Institute training. She has served on three U.S. Department of Defense task forces addressing sexual violence and sexual harassment in the military. She is a member of the Indiana National Guard Sexual Assault Review Board, RAINN Advisory Council, and the National Violence Against Women Advisory Council on Military Issues and Faith-Based Issues, and she is a Governor's appointee to the Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Council and the Indiana Sexual Assault Certification and Victim Advocacy Board. She earned a master’s degree in Sociology.

Ruth Glenn
Denver, Colorado

Ruth M. Glenn has worked and volunteered in the domestic violence field for more than 16 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Colorado Department of Human Services for 28 years and served as the director of the Domestic Violence Program for 9 years. She is experienced in successful project management issues, including strategic and succession planning. Ms. Glenn is an experienced public speaker and trainer. She has made hundreds of presentations and delivered trainings on domestic violence victimization and survival, testified before the Colorado legislature, and provided local and national media responses to domestic violence issues. Ms. Glenn has served on many Colorado domestic violence program and funding boards and provided consultation on a local and national level on victim/survivor issues as they relate to domestic violence, including specific populations. Ms. Glenn holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver.

Dr. Wolfteich also talks about what has worked well during this time of adjustment and what aspects of service delivery may continue virtually even after the pandemic is over.

Grant Funded Opportunity to Address Work-related Trauma
The International Association of Chiefs of Police<https://victimsofcrime.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=db5de61499b6cf77db23bb1ca&id=d15c439bf8&e=5b599df8ed> (IACP) is now accepting applications (see attached PDF) for the Vicarious Trauma Response Initiative (VTRI) which aims to promote healthy, collaborative approaches to address the impact of work-related trauma.

Twelve (12) multi-agency sites will receive up to $50,000 in federal funding and customized training and technical assistance (TTA) to strengthen interagency collaborations and support employee health, well-being, and resilience.

An identified lead organization is required to facilitate completion of the attached joint application which demonstrates a shared commitment to building comprehensive approaches to addressing the negative effects of work-related trauma exposure. Each Community Implementation Site is required to include victim services and law enforcement partners, in addition to other crime victim serving organizations. Tips for Maintaining Confidentiality at MDT

An important part of doing our best to serve children is maintaining confidentiality at MDT. As we strive to do our best to serve child victims and survivors, as much during these difficult times, as always, the following tips are offered to make sure we limit sharing of case information.

  1.  MEMBERS ONLY - If your Child Abuse MDT is scheduled back to back with any other MDTs-such as Trafficking, SART, or  Vulnerable Adults-be sure that only those individuals involved in the Child Abuse MDT case staffing are present for the Child Abuse MDT portion of the meeting.* Making a practice of formally starting and ending your Child Abuse MDT meeting and asking those not involved in the cases to step out of the meeting is helpful in ensuring that only the intended participants are present. Efficiency is important when we are working with limited resources, so scheduling meetings where many members serve on both teams can be helpful, but it is important to be sure that those not involved in MDT case staffing, such as prosecutors not involved with prosecuting child abuse, adult protective services workers and providers of community based services unrelated to child abuse intervention are not present for the Child Abuse MDT portion of the meeting.

  1.  MEETING REMOTELY – Many teams are meeting remotely, and doing so is an acceptable practice that can have many advantages. It is important to keep in mind that confidentiality applies to remote meetings as well as in person meetings.  If your MDT is meeting remotely, make sure that you have proper practices in place to ensure that only the invited MDT members have access to log in to your virtual meeting, by phone, web format, etc. and be aware of when individuals enter and leave the meeting. Designating someone such as the MDT Coordinator to monitor who enters and leaves, and using an electronic waiting room, can help ensure only invited members attend.   1.  CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENTS - Always get confirmation that each member at the meeting understands and agrees to the confidentiality of the meeting at the start of the meeting, prior to discussion of any case information. A clear verbal confirmation from each member present, an electronic signature or email confirmation are sufficient, and may be the best options when meetings are held via telephone or web based platforms.

*Remember: CAMI funds, including time tracked and reported to the CAMI grant for any FTE, can only be used for expenses directly related to child abuse intervention.
