This free virtual presentation will offer opportunities to think through our perceptions of childhood trauma. Sally Blackwood from CARES Northwest will provide information and lead discussions to help us explore the adverse effects of childhood trauma and abuse, how we can help children who’ve experienced trauma and abuse and, most importantly, how we can prevent it.
Every child deserves a happy, healthy and safe childhood. As community members who care about children and families, we can come together to help make that happen. This presentation will not focus exclusively on the negative realities of childhood abuse and trauma, but will also will bring community members together to envision our collective role in supporting children and families.
About the Speaker
Sally Blackwood is a Licensed Professional Counselor who began working with traumatized children in 1990. She has worked at CARES Northwest since 2006 and previously worked in residential treatment, community mental health and private practice.
Her experience includes working for almost 10 years as a counselor on the Family Sex Abuse Treatment Team of Multnomah County. She has experience and training in counseling children, teens, families and adults who have experienced trauma with a specialty in sexual abuse.
Currently, Sally is a member of the CARES Northwest Prevention Team and presents to students and adults. Sally has also presented at regional conferences on topics related to child sex abuse and trauma.

Building Resilient Teams
WRCAC is still accepting applications for the second cohort of Building Resilient Teams, an online guided discussion group designed to build resiliency within the MDT.
In addition, we are now accepting applications for the third cohort.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The topic of vicarious trauma and resiliency is one that most professionals in this field agree impacts our work; however, because of the nature of our work and the overwhelming complexity of the issue, it often gets pushed to the bottom of our priority list. The health of the MDT directly impacts the services it is able to provide to children and families. A healthy MDT is one that acknowledges and addresses the impact of vicarious trauma and actively works to build resiliency.
This group will promote resilience and provide an opportunity for participants to return to their MDT with strategies, resources, and an action plan for building resiliency within their own teams. For each cohort, WRCAC will select up to eighteen two-member teams representing MDTs from throughout the western region.
PROJECT DETAILS
[Text Description automatically generated]
Because participants will be returning to their individual MDTs with resources and action plans, it is required that one participant from each team carry be in a “leadership” role, typically defined as coordinator or facilitator of the MDT. All disciplines are encouraged to apply in order for well-rounded discussion within the group.
There is no cost to participate in the project.

CSAM Cases: How NCMEC can Assist Victim Advocates
May 6th at 3pm ET/2pm CT/1pm MT/12pm PT
60 minute FREE webinar offered by The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children
Victim Advocates are the lifeline for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) survivors navigating the criminal justice system. The complex trauma of the crime and the complicated system of victim notification and restitution can challenge even the most experienced victim advocates. NCMEC works with victim advocates each day to help answer questions like:
“What if they ask me how often their images are traded?”
“How do I anticipate their concerns, I don’t have much information on their case…”
“What if they need more long term help than we can offer?”
“How can they find a lawyer to help?”
“What are the resources and tools to help CSAM survivors and their families?”
This 1 hour webinar will highlight helpful information and resources for victim specialists working with CSAM survivors. In addition, participants will learn how to obtain vital case information from NCMEC, learn about removing videos and images from the internet, locate specialized counseling and legal assistance and hear tips from survivors on how to approach these cases for the best possible long term support and success.
To sign up, you will need register for an account on our virtual training platform NCMEC CONNECT<https://connect.missingkids.org/> and have NCMEC verify your account. Please allow 1-2 days for registration processing, then sign up for the webinar. If you already have a NCMEC CONNECT account, you can register for this webinar today https://connect.missingkids.org/products/csam-cases-how-ncmec-can-assist-victim-advocates
