Victim Service Provider Program Outcome Measures

On July 28, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. e.t., the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center (OVC TTAC) will present an online Expert Q&A discussion with Samantha Lowry and Jaclyn Smith on "Victim Service Provider Program Outcome Measures."

Measuring victim service outcomes is a key element in determining a program’s effectiveness and improving the quality of services for survivors. Data are critical for demonstrating a program’s success. In this session, participants will discuss best practices in measuring victim service outcomes and share solutions to common challenges. In addition, the hosts will share findings from the new Outcomes Measurement Tool, a resource developed by OVC TTAC to assist programs with developing and tracking outcome data and establishing more streamlined measures.

Children are some of the most vulnerable members of society and they are frequently victims of, or witnesses to, violence and abuse. As a result, children are often required to encounter and navigate the justice system. This system can be intimidating, confusing, and re-traumatizing for adults, let alone for children.
The Office for Victims or Crime announces the release of Child Victims and Witnesses Support Materials<https://protect2.fireeye.com/v1/url?k=893cd454-d6a7ecaf-893bf0b1-ac1f6b0176a2-9e61c44f2f8b2eeb&q=1&e=9f0ebe2f-fe1f-416d-8ca1-4ca9e1c57834&u=https%3A%2F%2Flnks.gd%2Fl%2FeyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDMsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMTA2MTcuNDIwNzIzNzEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL292Yy5vanAuZ292L2NoaWxkLXZpY3RpbXMtYW5kLXdpdG5lc3Nlcy1zdXBwb3J0P3V0bV9jYW1wYWlnbj1uZXdzJnV0bV9jb250ZW50PWNoaWxkX3ZpY3RpbV9zdXBwb3J0X21hdGVyaWFscyZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2Zyb21vdmMifQ.mLxSdL7EloKJBWZhZFA-InI0FFBmIXkm2BjAyOZ0GhQ%2Fs%2F1064511718%2Fbr%2F108093345158-l>, which is intended to support children and youth during their involvement with the justice system.
Based on the input of national experts, these materials teach children how the justice system works, what their rights are, the roles of the different practitioners they’ll meet, and how they can cope with the difficult feelings they might have. For children who have to testify, there are also tips to help them prepare for going to court.
These materials were specifically designed for children. In each of the illustrated narratives, child and youth characters explain how the justice system works in a child-friendly and developmentally appropriate way.

The Children's Advocacy Centers of Tennessee Chapter Welcomes
New Director Stephen Woerner!
Stephen Woerner has spent the last 20 years of his career being an advocate for children. For the last three years, Stephen was the Executive Director of a statewide non-profit responsible for producing the Kids Count Data Book for Alabama. This data is used to advocate for the health, education, safety, and economic security of Alabama's children at the local, state, and federal levels.

In addition, he worked for two years as a trainer and non-profit consultant for Troy University Continuing Education and Outreach. In that role, he taught hundreds of professionals all over Alabama on topics ranging from effective non-profit management to risk management to public speaking and diversity education. Stephen has also worked in fund development and event planning, hosting the largest Capitol Hill Day in Montgomery in 2019, with more than 1,000 children from across the state converging on the capitol to highlight the importance of the 2020 Census. A native of Nashville, Stephen is thrilled at the opportunity to return home and work on behalf of the CACs of Tennessee.

We welcome Stephen to the Southern Region!
