2021/2022 Prevention Resource Guide
Order Instructions
Last year, the Children’s Bureau, together with Child Welfare Information Gateway, released the all-new 2021/2022 Prevention Resource Guide. We hope you’ve enjoyed the new content that focuses on the social ecological model and highlights how families, neighborhoods, communities, and States are successfully using protective factors to protect children, strengthen families, and promote well-being.
The 2021/2022 Prevention Resource Guide is a wonderful tool to use one-on-one or in group settings—both in-person and virtually. Now, your organization can order additional copies of the resource guide to support the important work you do with families. Also, take this opportunity to order the resource guides you need to supplement any in-person meetings or conferences that you may be planning in 2022. Please follow the below instructions for ordering the resource guide.

NEW Sustainability is the capacity of a program or organization to accomplish long-lasting success and stability by establishing the organization or program as an essential service to victims and the community.
Victim service organizations and programs need to plan for sustainability in order to continue providing high quality services to victims of crime. The Sustaining Your Program’s Capacity To Serve Victims training addresses what sustainability means, how to assess a program’s sustainability, the eight sustainability domains (Program Adaptation, Strategic Communications, Program Evaluation, Supportive Environment, Organizational Capacity, Strategic Partnerships, Resource Development, and Strategic Planning), and how to develop a sustainability plan.

Your board of directors sets the tone and direction of your organization.
How do you build a strong, diverse, and engaged board? Once you accomplish that, how do you maintain member involvement? The Developing and Managing a Board of Directors training will provide a step-by-step guide to building an effective board and strategies for keeping members involved and accountable. This training is intended for staff within victim service organizations who work closely with a board of directors. It is not for those who are serving on a board of directors.

Planning for Sustainability, Diversifying Funding, and Writing Complex Grants
January 12 and 19, 2022 | 2:00–4:00 p.m. e.t.
Please join us on Wednesdays, January 12 and 19, 2022, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. eastern time, for the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center webinar series “Planning for Sustainability, Diversifying Funding, and Writing Complex Grants,” hosted by Marcie Davis.
Victim serving organizations often struggle with fluctuating funding sources and levels of support. The first session in this series will explore two critical domains of sustainability planning—effective resource and partnership development—and will help participants apply strategies that build strong support for their programs, potentially leading to new funding opportunities. Participants will begin to create a diversified funding plan framework, which will include new approaches for expanding a potential donor/funder pool. The second session will explore the essential ingredients of complex grant applications: compelling statements of need, detailed budget justifications aligned with project goals and objectives, and quality outcome measures. Implementing these plans and using these tools will improve the odds of success in finding strategic and sustainable funding.
The “Planning for Sustainability, Diversifying Funding, and Writing Complex Grants” webinars are part of the new Vital Subjects series. This series will address topics that are critical to the victim services field across the country.

Let's Be Real: The Urgent Need for Change in Child Welfare, Courts, and DV Programs
Let’s Be Real was the public plenary of “All of Us, Every Family,” the Quality Improvement Center on Domestic Violence in Child Welfare's March 2021 conference. There, a group of thought leaders from child welfare, dependency courts and domestic violence services grappled with the roles of each system in perpetuating structural racism and the urgent need for accountability and action. This critical conversation is now available as a video resource.
[Diagram Description automatically generated]
New Video Resource from the QIC-DVCW
Child welfare systems, dependency courts, and domestic violence programs have contributed to the conditions that result in disproportionate representation of families and survivors of color within child welfare, as well as racial disparities in access to help and services. Black and Indigenous children are over-represented in child welfare nationally, while Latinx children are over-represented in the system in more than 20 states.
If your work touches the lives of children and families impacted by domestic violence, the Quality Improvement Center on Domestic Violence in Child Welfare (QIC-DVCW) invites you to view our new video resource, Let's Be Real. This critical conversation among state and national leaders challenges us to take action and accountability to advance racial equity in multiple systems – so that every family experiencing domestic violence and child maltreatment can get real help.
