Participants build and sharpen their skills providing trauma-informed, collaborative child abuse response during this live, two-day virtual training. CEUs are now offered for law enforcement (DPSST) and social workers (NASW).

Training Overview

CCAR focuses on developing first responders' knowledge of Oregon's child abuse response and covers a range of topics that are critical for anyone engaging with families where child abuse is suspected or known to have occurred. This training is recommended for all members of the child abuse multidisciplinary team and fulfills statutorily mandated training requirements related to the Oregon Department of Justice. CCAR includes topics like memory, trauma and why children tell.

This training is appropriate for professionals as well as any students preparing for a profession that responds to child maltreatment. Participants may include law enforcement, child protective service workers, school officials, medical professionals, mental health treatment providers, Children's Advocacy Center employees, juvenile department representatives, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) or other organizations working with children and families.

New OCAS and ODOJ Resource:
Training and Technical Assistance Guide

Oregon Child Abuse Solutions (OCAS), in partnership with the Oregon Department of Justice, has created a new resource for Children's Advocacy Center staff and Child Abuse MDTs called the Training and Technical Assistance Guide.  It contains resources from statewide, regional, and national organizations that provide training or technical assistance to Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) or partners on local Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs). Professionals on MDTs may include law enforcement, prosecution, child protective service workers, school officials, medical professionals, mental health treatment providers, CAC employees, juvenile department staff and others.  Please see attached for the guide in a PDF format and share widely with appropriate partners.

This guide provides details about each organization that offers training or technical assistance, as well as highlights core training or curriculum that are offered regularly. Note that some organizations have the expertise and capacity to accept specific training requests on additional topics. If you don’t immediately find a training that meets your needs, check to see if an organization may be able to respond to a specific training request. Abductions involving family members may be one of two scenarios; a family member abducts the child, or the family member is involved in the death of the child and then falsely reports the child as missing. Compare and contrast specific characteristics of different types of family member involved child abductions. Identify crucial initial steps in a Family Member Abduction which can aid in quick recovery of the child. Delve into the False Report of Child Abduction by a family member. Identifying patterns and response recommendations to assist in discerning a false report, then the investigative steps to thoroughly investigate family members and either focus investigative efforts upon them or eliminate them quickly. The application for October 2023 Oregon Child Forensic Interview Training (OCFIT) is now OPEN! This training will be held IN-PERSON in Medford, OR, from October 23-27, 2023. Applicants will be notified by Monday, September 18th of acceptance or waitlist status.

Monday, October 23 (1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Tuesday, October 24 (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Wednesday, October 25 (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Thursday, October 26  (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Friday, October 27 (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
To be considered for enrollment, all applicants must ensure the following steps are completed:
1. Fill out the online application in its entirety via the above link. All applications must be signed by the applicant.
3. Their supervisor will receive an email (and a text if cell phone is provided) that prompts their signature. All applications must be signed by the applicant's supervisor.
4. The MDT Chair of the applicant's county will receive an email (and a text if cell phone is provided) that prompts their signature. All applications must be signed by the Chair of the participant's county MDT.
4. The applicant can pay with a credit card while applying or can indicate they will send a check (70 SW Century Drive Suite 100 PMB 345, Bend, OR 97702). They can also designate someone else that is responsible for payment (e.g. their supervisor/the payor in their branch). Their indicated payor will then receive a follow-up email. Payment must be received by the application deadline in order to be considered for enrollment.
