The National AMBER Alert Symposium is designed to bring together over 200 State and Regional AMBER Alert coordinators, Missing Person Clearinghouse Managers, Tribal leaders, public safety, emergency management and federal officials to collaborate, share best practices, discuss the latest developments in the field and to train with other child protection partners to improve response and recovery of endangered missing and exploited children.

The two-day event will be hosted by members of the AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program (AATTAP) and feature leading subject matter experts.

Sessions will focus on the following topics.
·     Endangered missing and abducted child case studies, including Tribal cases
·     Decisional considerations for AMBER Alert/Endangered Missing Advisory activations
·     The importance of CART development, preparedness, and certification
·     The significant rate of, and complications stemming from, family abductions
·     Technology and information system best practices
·     AMBER Alert in Indian Country initiatives and collaboration opportunities
·     Discussions about current trends in Cross-Border/Southern Border abductions
·     Tools and resources to bolster long-term/unsolved child abduction cases
·     Mental health awareness/support for professionals working to combat and respond to crimes against children

The Symposium will also offer regional breakout sessions to foster collaboration among partners and inform future AATTAP outreach and course/

event planning. Tracks will provide participants with a self-curated choice of sessions to attend.

January 13 is National AMBER Alert Awareness Day. The AMBER Alert early warning system notifies the public when a child goes missing. It was named in remembrance of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas, on January 13, 1996.

Cyberstalking and Cyberbullying Among Teens

On February 14 at 2:00 p.m. ET, the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center will present an online Expert Q&A discussion with Jayne A. Hitchcock on "Cyberstalking and Cyberbullying Among Teens.”

Cyberstalking involves repeated use of technology to contact and harass someone else, causing them to fear for their safety. Cyberstalking is a form of cyberbullying which occurs when someone uses technology to demean, inflict harm, or cause pain to another person through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices. Both are common among teens. What is the impact of cyberstalking and cyberbullying on teens? What can teachers and schools do to prevent or reduce their incidence? How do you report cyberstalking and cyberbullying? What laws are in place to protect teens?

Jayne A. Hitchcock

Jayne A. Hitchcock is a noted cyberbullying and cyberstalking expert and author. For more than 18 years, she has trained advocates and law enforcement, from the local to federal levels, and provided online safety seminars for the general public, online safety issues in the workplace seminars for employers, and served as keynote speaker at conferences throughout the world (recently in London). In addition, she offers a no-holds-barred talk for students about how what they do online can affect them in the future; she calls it "The Wild, Wild Web: The Internet Scared Straight." Within the United States, Ms. Hitchcock has talked to students of all ages, from 4th grade to high school as well as university and college students. With social networking such a huge issue, she believes it is important to let students know that what they do online now can and will be used against them in the future. In addition, she talks to parents about how to deal with online issues involving their children, and she provides information, tips, and resources. As president of two online safety organizations, Working to Halt Online Abuse at haltabuse.org, Ms. Hitchcock has firsthand knowledge and the capability to provide pertinent information without going over other people's heads.

New Resources for Implementing Telemental Health Networks

The need for access to mental health services has only increased in the last few years. Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) can utilize telemental health (TMH) services to meet the mental health needs of their clients, especially those located in rural and frontier communities.

There are many things to consider in deciding whether to proceed with planning a TMH network for CACs in your state. Telemental Health Network Implementation Resource Toolkit

This toolkit provides an overview of helpful CAC-focused resources to assist Chapters and CACs in implementing TMH programs. The toolkit includes resources and sample documents related to program development, recruitment, assessment, safety planning, and virtual delivery of evidence-based treatments. This document is informed by work done on WRCAC's Telemental Health Resource Center as well as support from Chapters and states doing TMH work.

The Health Resources & Services Adminstration recently announced the opportunity to apply for funding under the Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) Evidence Based Telehealth Network Program (EB-TNP).

The purpose of this program is to integrate behavioral health services into primary care settings using telehealth technology through telehealth networks and evaluate the effectiveness of such integration. Applicants are encouraged to propose novel ways to achieve equity in access to affordable, high-quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate telebehavioral care for rural and underserved patients across the U.S.
