address their complex needs. How can multidisciplinary groups work together to identify survivors and direct them to services? How can key stakeholders enhance their capacity and collaboration to meet survivors’ needs?

<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Sex trafficking is a hot topic in the news today. It seems that you can’t turn on your TV without hearing a story about a victim or pimp. The Oregon DOJ (DOJ) and the
federal government have identified that this is an issue worth fighting. In recognition that changes need to be made to upset the business of sex trafficking and to help the victims of this crime, the DOJ created a new position, CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation
of Children) Intervention Coordinator. DOJ hired Amanda Swanson to fill the position. Prior to coming to the DOJ, Amanda worked directly with victims of sex trafficking for five years. She has been at DOJ for about 3 months. The following is an update of
the work she is doing in cooperation with counties around the state. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Since starting in this position, I have been travelling around the state meeting key players in each county to start having conversations not only about what trafficking
looks like in each county but also about what services are available and/or needed. Currently I am focusing on 9 counties Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, Marion, Deschutes, Umatilla, Jackson, Douglas and Linn. In Clackamas County we are starting to work
on a response for when victims are identified and picked up. We anticipate that this response will be rolling out in the next year. In Deschutes County I am working with the CSEC MDT to build and hand out surveys to service providers in the county to get
a feel for the size of the issue there and what the issue looks like. I am also working to identify further training and awareness needs of that community. In Douglas County I have started meeting key players for their CSEC MDT and we hope to have our first
CSEC MDT meeting scheduled in the next few months. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Along with building CSEC MDTs I am also putting together a technical assistance training team to travel the state and help direct service providers with concrete intense
training on how to identify victims, prosecute these tough cases, and offer advocacy and case management for this population. In May, I partnered with the FBI victims specialist and the AUSA to present CSEC information at the Tribal Summit in Umatilla County.
The presentation stressed the importance of a collaborative multidisciplinary approach including culturally specific and appropriate services to meet the needs of this population. It’s going to take a village.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
