<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">The House Vote to Improve Justice for Grieving Families HB 4136 lifts the cap on wrongful death
 cases for the first time in 29 years. On February 10th, the Oregon House voted to update the cap on non-economic damages in wrongful death claims for the first time in nearly 30 years. House Bill 4136, which passed 33-26, will lift the cap on wrongful death
 cases from $500,000--set in 1987--to $1.5 million. It would give grieving families access to a more just compensation. This bill now goes to Senate for consideration.

 engaged in survival sex and are self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) youth; young men who have sex with men (YMSM); and young women who have sex with women (YWSW). The report found that more than 70 percent of LGBTQ
 youth had been arrested at least once, with some experiencing violence, abuse, and disrespect when interacting with law enforcement and system stakeholders. The blog calls for law enforcement to improve responses to LGBTQ youth through trauma-informed support,
 specific protocols for victims of trafficking, safe and supportive arrests, and proper shelter options. In addition, the blog details recommendations from study participants on how law enforcement, courts, and child welfare can better interact with LGBTQ youth,
 including LGBTQ sensitivity and cultural competency training.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="mso-line-height-alt:13.5pt"><span style="font-size:14.0pt">Tara Korthals is currently the Executive Director for the Center for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Survivors and works part time as a deputy for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. 
 She attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln focusing in Criminal Justice and Psychology.  She has worked in Child Protective Services doing child abuse and neglect investigations and has also pursued a career in law enforcement for the past six and a
 half years for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.  In her spare time, she also volunteers for the David City Volunteer Fire Department as an Emergency Medical Technician.  <o:p></o:p></span></p>

 medical evaluations of suspected child abuse victims. The provider shall conduct examinations in the clinic setting, and will also participate in child abuse prevention efforts and education.   Pediatric experience is required, and knowledge in the diagnoses
 and treatment of child maltreatment is preferred. Duties would include direct patient care in the Children’s Advocacy Center clinic to include some after hours and on call coverage. The provider shall be supervised by the CAC Medical Director.  The provider
 would also be required to testify in the event of legal proceedings.  The Children’s Advocacy Center is looking for a highly motivated professional to join our mission which is to provide a compassionate, multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, treatment,
 identification, investigation, and prosecution of child abuse. <span style="color:#0099CC">

 at least five years of experience in a mental health setting dealing with individual, family, and group therapy for a range of child abuse and neglect issues, including domestic violence and drug endangerment.  Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of
 the principles and practices of mental health diagnosis, treatment planning and effective treatment modalities and the ability to work cooperatively with families, law enforcement, other agency personnel, and community partners.
