 hope this Community Connections finds you well this Spring. April is National Child Abuse Prevention month. As Aprille Flint-Gerner, Deputy Director of Equity, Training and Workforce Development, and I traveled across the state this month visiting local offices,
 we saw blue pinwheels reminding us of the great childhoods we want for all children. More so, we were inspired by our interactions with staff, partners, and providers throughout the past month. Your commitment, dedication, and care for the work, for children
 and families shone bright.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="margin:0in;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:black">The unique perspectives, insights and experiences of our community and staff help us create better
 programs and policies, dismantle barriers, and produce better outcomes for the children and families we serve. We serve our communities better when we effectively create a culture of inclusion that integrates the diverse experiences of our workforce, resource

 and neglect. While this work undoubtedly presents key intrinsic rewards, it can also take its toll. There have been many terms used to describe this impact, including vicarious trauma (VT), burnout, secondary traumatic stress (STS), and compassion fatigue.
 With the advent of COVID-19, employee stress and burnout have reached peak levels, leading many to re-think whether they want to continue working in this field. </span><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#403F42"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#403F42">Children’s advocacy center (CAC) staff are particularly vulnerable to developing STS and/or VT. While the field of STS and VT (which will be combined as STS/VT
 for the purposes of the current article) has received great attention over the past several years, there continues to be a significant need in developing resources and supports specific to the CAC environment. Seeking to address this need, the Western Regional

Overview</span></b><o:p></o:p></h1>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#100F59">This training is a first-of-its-kind, statewide training for Oregon's multidisciplinary team members and fulfills statutorily mandated
 training requirements that include information on risk assessment, the dynamics of child abuse, child sexual abuse and rape of children and forensic interviewing.
