If your entity offers a Kaiser medical plan, please read the following. If your entity doesn't offer a Kaiser medical plan, you can ignore this message.
*******
We received word today that Kaiser Permanente NW is in the process of implementing a change in their Pharmacy system. Kaiser sent a message to its members to let them know what to expect, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of it in case any of your employees contact you asking about it. You can refer the employee to the Kaiser customer service number at 1-866-223-2375.
We don't have a copy of the actual communication that went to members, but we understand this conversion may result in some delays when members' prescriptions are filled (via retail or mail order pharmacy). Kaiser anticipates long-term gains in efficiency as a result of this implementation. Following are a few Q&As that might be helpful for you to know:
When will the updates occur?
All of our outpatient pharmacies will be upgraded and live by Monday, August 4, 2014
What is the expected impact to filling my prescriptions?
At our Kaiser Permanente (medical office) pharmacies, pharmacy orders may take up to two times the "normal" time to complete an order. We anticipate this to be the case for the first 30 to 45 days after the system update.
* If it currently takes 5-10 minutes to fill a prescription at the Interstate pharmacy (for example), members can expect it to take 10-20 minutes for the first 30 to 45 days after the system update.
* If it currently takes 2-4 days to receive a mail order prescription, members can expect it to take an additional 3-5 days to receive a mail order prescription (through Kaiser Permanente's mail order pharmacy).
What is Kaiser Permanente doing to mitigate the impact to members?
We are bringing pharmacists and pharmacy techs from our other Kaiser Permanente regions - that have been through the system updates already - to support us during the update.
We will have pharmacy lobby greeters on-hand during the conversion to answer any questions and assist members as they await their prescriptions.
What will be gained by converting to the new system?
* This system will be implemented in all Kaiser Permanente pharmacies nationwide.
* We will be able to access members' chart information from anywhere - even when traveling outside of the Oregon / Washington service area.
* Continued focus on and realization of quality and safety for our members.
We apologize for any inconvenience to you and your employees and for not letting you know about this earlier on.
Sincerely,
Denise L. Hall
