Healthy Happy Hour:
Sound Bath--The Healing Power of Music

Sound is a powerful and ancient technology for healing and connecting with deeper, restorative states of consciousness. Whether you enter the experience with a clear intention or you hope to just simply relax, the vibrational nuances of a sound journey can take you just where you need to go and provide just what you are needing on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. During this particular sound bath experience, Shireen Amini will usher you through a variety of soundscapes facilitated by such instruments as the crystal bowl, tongue drum, buffalo drum, voice, shakers, rattles and more. Her offering blends elements of ceremony, rhythm and song into a comprehensive community experience that will leave you feeling more deeply and peacefully connected to yourself and to life.

Purpose Track Highlights

We are excited to introduce our Purpose track! This track is centered on identifying and embracing your sense of meaning and motivation to give back to others and the world in some positive way. Here is a sneak peek of two of this year's Purpose breakout sessions:

[teacher_students.jpg]

More Than a Bubble Bath: Finding Ways to Maintain Vision and Passion for Your Work

Practicing self-care goes beyond taking a bubble bath after a hard day. How can school employees stay true to their core beliefs and still have passion for their work? In this session we will practice creating a vision for your work based on core beliefs as well as ways to stay regulated and true to your vision during the most stressful moments of the day. Learn ways to practice mindfulness and reflection in order to reduce toxic stress and practice self-care in your workplace.

Learning objective:
· Participants will have a strong vision for their work and strategies for staying true to their core beliefs in what can be a chaotic and stressful work environment.

Presented by:
Leah Starkovich
Oregon Education Association (OEA)

Leach Starkovich has been an educator for nearly 17 years. She joined OEA in 2018 in the Center for Great Public Schools as the professional practice organizer. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in instructional coaching, professional learning, teacher leadership, learning designs, quality assessment and content expertise in reading, math and professional educator standards. Prior to joining OEA, Leah served as a student achievement specialist, reading teacher and elementary school teacher.

Leading Together for Healthy School Communities

Leading Together is a research-based program rooted in the belief that students flourish best in an environment where all educators feel supported, working together in a culture of mutual respect and courageous dialogue. Leading Together is designed to build relational trust within the adult community in schools. This workshop will introduce participants to the cornerstones of Leading Together, provide opportunities to practice activities from the Leading Together approach and reflect on ways they might incorporate Leading Together in their own school communities.

Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to help build adult community in their schools by:
· Reconnecting with what originally inspired them to be educators
· Cultivating self-awareness
· Building connections and community
· Strengthening capacity to listen, pay attention and be present in teaching, learning and relationships

Presented by:
Dawn Montgomery, EdD
Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling

Dawn Montgomery's 32 years in K-12 education supports her service to the professional development of leaders. Her varied work experience includes elementary and middle school teacher, middle and high school vice principal, high school principal and district office director overseeing K-12 school and many district programs and initiatives. Besides serving as a Courage and Renewal facilitator, she is an executive performance coach, an equity training and facilitator and adjunct faculty of Educational Leadership at Lewis and Clark College.

Matsya Siosal

Jessica Lawrence

Jess Lawrence is an enthusiastic, energetic, extroverted New Englander living in Eastern Kentucky by way of Portland, Oregon after 20 years. She started her career doing exactly what she wanted to do since her own high school experience—teaching 7th graders health education. In 2003, Jess was hired as the Health Education Curriculum Specialist for the Oregon Department of Education, where she provided assistance and professional development to health teachers across Oregon. In 2006, Jess pursued a career as a national school health/wellness consultant, working with state departments of transportation, education, and health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, school districts and non-profits working to create healthier schools and communities. She writes curriculum, presents at conferences, works closely with districts to implement the WSCC Framework and facilitates a variety of events, including how to create systems change in schools around wellness.

On August 31, 2013, Jess completed a life goal of bicycling solo across the United States in 90 days and while doing so raised $23,000 for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to fight childhood obesity.

She lives in Morehead KY with her partner, Jamie Sparks and his three children ages 11, 13 and 16 and enjoys cycling, international travel, cooking and watching soccer.
