<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">We have started adding more accessibility features to our digitized items that end up as PDFs to be ingested in to our DAMS in an effort to make them easier to navigate and read for those who use screen readers.
However, with the majority of what we digitize being government documents, one of the issues I am currently running up against is what to do about graphs. We are using ABBYY to OCR the items prior to compiling them in to a searchable PDF, so we have the ability
to state what is an image and what is text and so on.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">I found a few resources from Penn State and Illinois State University that essentially boiled down to don’t use PDFs and don’t use graphs (but everything else was super helpful!), neither of which I have a
choice with. Which, is why I am reaching out; do any of you run in to this? What do you do? I have attached an example of the images that were scanned of what we run in to in the collection where we don’t choose the color of the graphs or the style, so maybe
the option we are left with is alt text.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
