Sport Salmon Season Reopens North of Tillamook Head Friday
PORTLAND - After reviewing catches from last week, salmon fishery managers =
today decided to re-open the ocean recreational salmon season off the =
mouth of the Columbia River starting Friday. Managers were able to =
re-open the fishery because catches were lower than anticipated over the =
Labor Day weekend and 5,000 coho remaining on the Westport recreational =
fishery quota were transferred to the Columbia River area recreational =
fishery. =20
The area from Tillamook Head, Oregon to Leadbetter Point, Washington =
re-opens to recreational salmon fishing effective Friday, Sept. 6 through =
Sunday, Sept. 15. The daily bag limit is two adipose fin-clipped coho =
salmon. Chinook retention is prohibited.
Additional ocean salmon fishing opportunities include:
-Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain: The chinook season is open through Oct. =
31. Retention of coho is prohibited.
-Humbug Mountain to the Oregon/California border: The chinook season is =
open through Sept. 15. Retention of coho is prohibited.
Today's decision does not affect the popular Buoy 10 fishery in the =
Columbia River estuary. Anglers may harvest two salmon or steelhead per =
day from Buoy 10 upstream to Tongue Point, but only one may be a chinook =
and all coho and steelhead must have a healed adipose fin-clip.=20
Information on bag limits, gear restrictions, and near-shore terminal area =
ocean salmon fisheries can be found in the 2002 Oregon Ocean Salmon and =
Halibut Sport Fishing Regulations.
