Commission to vote on Hatchery Management Policy May 9

PORTLAND - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will vote Friday, May 9, on the final draft language of a new hatchery management policy for Oregon and will receive information on proposals for upcoming big game hunting seasons. The meeting will occur in downtown Portland at the headquarters of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. 

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission is the rule-making body for ODFW. The seven-member panel meets monthly to adopt rules and set policy for ODFW to implement. The Commission starts the meeting at 8 a.m. and proceeds through the agenda in order. The following items are on the agenda:

·	Director's report on regional activities and implementation of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds;
·	Approval of a fish passage waiver request for PacifiCorp's Prospect project in the upper Rogue River;
·	Rulemaking to establish a process to choose the upland game bird stamp;
·	Rulemaking to allow trapping and relocation of nuisance wildlife in Paisley and Lakeview;
·	Informational briefing on controlled hunt tag proposals for 2003 and regulation changes for 2004;
·	Informational briefing on snowy plover population status;
·	Final determination on developmental fisheries permits contested cases;
·	Approval of funding requests under the Restoration and Enhancement Program;
·	Rulemaking on Hatchery Management Policy;
·	Rulemaking on 2003 Pacific lamprey harvest at Willamette Falls;
·	Executive session pursuant to ORS 192.660(1)(H) to consult with legal counsel;
·	Decision whether to accept a petition calling for an amendment to the North Umpqua River fly area rules; and
·	ODFW employee awards and presentation of the Shikar Safari Enforcement Officer of the Year award (to occur just before lunch).
 
An agenda item on grass carp stocking rules will not be considered to allow more time for analysis.

Public testimony will be taken on each agenda item. Sign-up sheets will be provided at the meeting. Agenda item exhibits may be requested by calling the ODFW Director's Office at (503) 872-5272. The exhibits also will be posted to the ODFW Web site at  http://www.dfw.state.or.us/ODFWhtml/commission_meeting.html the week of May 5.

Persons seeking to testify for up to five minutes on other issues not on the formal agenda may do so by making arrangements at least 24 hours in advance. "Unscheduled testimony" must be arranged by calling Mike Lueck, ODFW Director's Office, (503) 872-5272. Unscheduled testimony occurs around 1 p.m. and is limited to about six speakers.
