Members sought for Commercial Fishery Permit Review Board
SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking members
to represent the public and commercial fishing interests on the
Commercial Fishery Permit Review Board. Persons interested should
contact ODFW by Friday, April 30.
The permit review board reviews limited entry permit denials made by
ODFW and reviews requests for transfers for the following commercial
fisheries: sea urchin, roe herring, shrimp, Columbia River gillnet
salmon, ocean troll salmon, ocean shrimp/scallop, ocean crab, blue and
black rockfish, and nearshore fisheries. The board is composed of three
individuals representing commercial fishers from each fishery plus two
at-large public members.
Currently, there are 23 vacant positions to represent the following
fisheries: Columbia River gillnet salmon, ocean troll salmon, ocean pink
shrimp/scallop, sea urchin, roe herring and ocean crab. Terms for the
two public representatives also have expired, leaving those positions
open for reappointment or new appointees.
Members of the board receive no compensation for services as a member.
They will, however, be reimbursed for travel and other expenses incurred
in the performance of official duties. Applicants must be willing to
travel to coast locations and to Salem, although telephone conference
calls are used in many cases to reduce travel. About four board meetings
are held each year, each lasting 30 - 60 minutes.
Qualified women and minorities are encouraged to apply. All persons
must be able to effectively contribute to board decisions.
Potential candidates should submit a resume that describes their career
and/or public service history. Resumes should be mailed no later than
April 30, 2004, to Dodie Staudinger, ODFW, 3406 Cherry Ave. N.E., Salem,
OR 97303 or e-mailed to dodie.a.staudinger at state.or.us. For additional
information, call 503-947-6110.
