Sturgeon regulations hearing rescheduled
SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife will meet this Thursday, Jan. 15, to set
the 2004 sturgeon seasons for the lower Columbia River. The meeting,
which begins at 10 a.m., will take place at the WDFW Regional Office at
2108 Grand Boulevard in Vancouver, Wash. The meeting originally had been
scheduled to take place last week, but was postponed due to severe
weather conditions.
The lower Columbia River sturgeon fishery for 2004 will be managed for
an overall catch of 30,000-32,000 fish. It is expected that different
seasons will be established for above and below the Wauna powerline, as
has been done for the last several years.
The meeting is an open public hearing, and public testimony is
encouraged. The adopted seasons will be made known to the sturgeon
angling public immediately after the meeting through news releases and
posting to the ODFW Web site (www.dfw.state.or.us).
