Fish and Wildlife Commission to meet in Portland area next week

SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will convene in open session Aug. 5-6 to meet with the Columbia Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, receive a tour of the captive broodstock program at Bonneville Hatchery and adopt the 2004-05 Oregon game bird hunting regulations. The Commission also will adopt a new management plan for wild turkey and hear public testimony on proposed fishing rules for 2005. 

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission is the state's policy-making body for fish and wildlife issues in Oregon. The seven-member panel meets monthly. 

The official agenda of the Commission will begin at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, with a government to government meeting with the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission at the Portland office of the tribal fish commission, 729 N.E. Oregon St., Suite 200. The meeting is expected to last until noon. 

At 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will depart from the Best Western Pony Soldier Inn in Gresham, 1060 N.E. Cleveland Ave., and travel to Bonneville Hatchery in the Columbia River Gorge. The hatchery tour will focus on operations to rear fish stocks listed as threatened or endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act. 

On Friday, Aug. 6, the Commission will meet in regular session beginning at 8 a.m. in the city council chambers of the Gresham City Hall, 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway in Gresham. The following items are on the agenda:

*	Director's report on regional ODFW activities and temporary rules;
*	Expenditure report;
*	Adoption of the 2004-05 Oregon Game Bird Regulations and a five year framework for upland game bird seasons;
*	Adoption of a Oregon Wild Turkey Management Plan;
*	Informational briefing about release methods of sturgeon caught near Willamette Falls in Oregon City; and
*	Informational briefing on 2005 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations.

Public testimony will be taken Aug. 6 on each agenda item. For all agenda items, sign-up sheets to testify will be provided at the meeting. Most agenda items are posted to ODFW's Web site at: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/Comm/schedule.htm.
