SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Salmon and Trout
Enhancement Program Advisory Committee today announced an April 22
meeting in Roseburg. Members of the public are invited to attend.

The Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program was created by the Oregon
Legislature in 1981 to provide a way for volunteers to participate in
the restoration of native stocks of salmon, steelhead and trout. Since
then, thousands of volunteers have assisted Oregon's fisheries through
their involvement in STEP, donating money, materials, equipment, and
countless hours of time and labor.

The April meeting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife Umpqua District Watershed Office, 4192
N. Umpqua Hwy. The agenda includes updates on a number of ODFW fisheries
management programs, review of draft STAC handbooks, recognition of STEP
volunteers and ODFW staff, review of STAC Mini-Grant proposals, reports
on STEP activities throughout the state and other committee business.

At 12:30 p.m., Dave Loomis, ODFW Umpqua Watershed District Manager, will
give a presentation on a genetic study of coho salmon currently being
conducted on Calapooya Creek.

The Committee will possibly meet for dinner on Friday, during which the
committee may discuss matters of general interest. Members of the public
are welcome to join committee members at this time. The location will be
announced during the course of the meeting.

A half-day field trip to view Umpqua area STEP project sites is
scheduled for Sat., Apr. 23. The tour begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 12
p.m. Members of the public may accompany the group using their own
transportation. Persons seeking driving directions may contact STEP
Program staff at (503) 947-6211.

Following the official meeting on Friday, committee members may meet for
dinner to discuss matters of interest. Members of the public are welcome
to join committee members for dinner. The dinner location will be
announced during the course of the meeting.

large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of
accommodations may call the Information and Education Division at
