ODFW director announces departure
 
Director Lindsay Ball will depart ODFW to head the 
Oregon Department of Administrative Services
 
SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Lindsay A. Ball
has been appointed to head the Oregon Department of Administrative
Services, the Governor's Office announced today. The appointment, which
is subject to Senate confirmation, takes effect Jan. 3, 2006.
 
The choice of Ball to lead DAS taps a director who is well known and
respected among legislators and state agency leaders as someone who
stands for effective, efficient and responsive government.
 
"Director Ball was instrumental in bringing fiscal integrity and open
budget development processes to ODFW," said Oregon Fish and Wildlife
Commission Chair Marla Rae. "His leadership has transformed what was an
embattled agency five years ago into a department that is now held up as
a model for other state agencies to follow. I have been very pleased to
work with Lindsay for the last several years and to see the improvements
he has implemented at ODFW."
 
Ball has led the department through some significant changes, noted Rae,
including workforce reductions and reorganizations aimed at streamlining
operations, budget cuts and changes to bring the agency's spending in
line with revenues, relocation of the agency's headquarters from
Portland to Salem, creation of the Oregon Hatchery Research Center, and
development of the state's first Wolf Conservation and Management Plan.
 
The Commission will meet soon to select an interim director to lead ODFW
until a permanent replacement is named. No decision has been made as to
when the recruitment for a new director will begin.
