Fish Passage Task Force to meet in Oregon City

SALEM - Oregon's Fish Passage Task Force will meet Jan. 21 in Oregon
City to discuss statewide fish passage issues. Members of the public are
welcome to attend.

The meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clackamas County
Offices training room, 2051 Kaen Road. The Task Force agenda includes
fish passage waiver requests in the Tualatin and Clackamas basins, an
update on the ODFW funding programs, and other statewide issues.

Task Force members are appointed by the Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife's director. The nine-member group meets several times yearly
to advise ODFW on fish passage policies and issues. Task Force members
represent water users, fishery and conservation interests, and the
general public.

The Task Force works with ODFW at a statewide policy level to ensure
adult and juvenile fish access to habitat. Oregon law requires owners
and operators of artificial obstructions in waters of the state to
address fish passage when planning new construction, major replacement,
a change in permit status or abandonment. Providing adult and juvenile
fish passage is one of the most immediate ways to improve fish
populations.

Reasonable accommodations are provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
should call the Information and Education Division at 800-720-6339 or
503-947-6002 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.

For more information, call State Fish Passage Coordinator Tom Stahl at
503-947-6228.
