Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program committee to meet in The Dalles
SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Salmon and Trout
Enhancement Program Advisory Committee today announced a Sept. 16
meeting in The Dalles.
The Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program was created by the Oregon
Legislature in 1981 to provide a way for volunteers to participate in
the restoration of native stocks of salmon, steelhead and trout. Since
then, thousands of volunteers have assisted Oregon's fisheries through
their involvement in STEP, donating money, materials, equipment, and
countless hours of time and labor.
The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ODFW Screen Shop,
3561 Klindt Dr. Members of the public are invited to attend.
STAC makes recommendations to ODFW and the Fish and Wildlife Commission
on issues regarding STEP. The committee's thirteen members are appointed
by the Governor and represent all areas of Oregon. Since January of this
year, six new members have been appointed to STAC to replace those who
had completed their service. The new members are: Tod Jones (Astoria),
Richard Heap (Brookings), Lauri Mullen (Eugene), Michael Brochu
(Roseburg), Robert Rees (Tillamook), and Gary Enoch (Selma).
The September meeting agenda includes several informational
presentations from ODFW staff, discussions on STEP issues, review of
STAC Mini-Grant proposals, reports on STEP activities throughout the
state and other committee business.
The Committee will meet for both lunch and dinner on Friday, during
which the committee may discuss matters of general interest. Members of
the public are welcome to join committee members at this time. The
location will be announced during the course of the meeting.
A half-day field trip to view area fish and habitat projects is
scheduled for Sept. 17. The tour begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.
Members of the public may accompany the group using their own
transportation. Persons seeking driving directions may contact STEP
Program staff at (503) 947-6232.
Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the Information and Education Division at 800-720-6339 or
503-947-6002 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
