Trout stocked for youth fishing event

ROCKAWAY BEACH - Young people interested in learning to fish can find a
great opportunity April 15 at Nedonna Pond, just north of Rockaway
Beach.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock approximately 600
legal-size rainbow trout for the event as well as 50 trophy trout, as
part of the Youth Angling Enhancement Program.

The fishing event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ODFW will supply
rods, reels and tackle for use by young anglers who do not have their
own fishing equipment. Volunteers from the Rockaway Lions Club will be
on hand to help young anglers. The child who catches the largest trout
will win a rod and reel.

The program is made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the
Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with
ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the
state.

Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers 13-years-old and younger
do not need a fishing license, but anglers 14-17 years are required to
have a juvenile license. All angling regulations continue to apply for
this event.
