Big Game Raffle Hunt ticket deadline approaching  
 
SALEM - State wildlife officials today reminded hunters that the
deadline is approaching for a chance to win a special big game hunting
opportunity. 
 
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife big game raffle tickets went on
sale last December at hunting/fishing license sales agents, Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife headquarters in Salem, and many regional
and district ODFW offices.
 
The raffle hunts offered for 2006 include statewide combination deer and
elk, statewide deer, statewide elk, northeast Oregon deer, southeast
Oregon deer, central Oregon deer, northeast Oregon elk,
central/southeast Oregon elk, western Oregon elk, bighorn sheep, Rocky
Mountain goat, and pronghorn.
 
All money raised from the deer and elk raffle is distributed through
Access and Habitat Program grants to individual and corporate
landowners, sport/conservation organizations and others to fund wildlife
habitat improvement and hunter access projects throughout Oregon. All
money raised from the bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goat, and pronghorn
raffle is used for the research and management of those species.
 
Deer and elk raffle winners will be licensed to hunt a 91-day season,
from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 2006, across multiple management units. The
winner of the Bighorn sheep raffle will be able to hunt from Aug. 12 to
Nov. 19 anywhere there are authorized tags and seasons. The Rocky
Mountain goat raffle winner will be able to hunt from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31
anywhere there are authorized seasons and tags. The pronghorn raffle
winner will be able to hunt from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 anywhere there are
authorized seasons and tags. All big game raffle tags are in addition to
general season and controlled hunt tags. 
 
Ticket prices for deer hunts are $4 for one ticket, $11 for six, $21 for
15, $51 for 40 and $101 for 100. Elk raffle tickets are $6 for one, $21
for six, $41 for 15 and $101 for 40. Combination deer and elk hunt
tickets are one for $11, six for $31, 15 for $61 and 40 for $151.
Bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goat, and pronghorn raffle tickets are $11
for one, $51 for six, and $101 for 13. 
 
Packages of up to 15 tickets may be purchased at any ODFW point-of-sale
license vendor through May 10, 2006. Access and Habitat Program Deer and
Elk Raffle Ticket packages of 40 and 100 must be purchased by mail or
fax through ODFW's Salem office, 3406 Cherry Ave. NE, Salem, OR  97303

Order forms are available from point-of-sale agents, on page 31 of the
2006 big game regulations or by calling (503) 947-6300. Order forms,
current raffle ticket sales numbers, and further information are
available on the Auction and Raffle Program Web site at
www.dfw.state.or.us/raffle
 
Purchased tickets must be filled out and returned to ODFW to be
officially entered in the drawing. The point-of-sale deadline for
purchasing tickets is May 10, 2006. Mail orders must be postmarked no
later than May 13, 2006. Raffle tickets may also be hand-delivered to
ODFW's Salem headquarters by 5 p.m., May 18, 2006, or to the drawing
location by 7 p.m., May 20, 2006.
 
The winning tickets will be drawn at the 23rd Annual Oregon Hunters
Association State Convention, to be held in Lincoln City on May 20,
2006. Raffle tickets will also be on sale at the convention from 5 p.m.
to 6:30 p.m.
