Youth fishing event scheduled at Mayer State Park

THE DALLES - State fishery officials today announced a May 6 youth
fishing event at Mayer State Park near The Dalles.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock more than 1,000 legal
and trophy size rainbow trout into Bikini Pond as part of the Youth
Angling Enhancement Program, now in its third year. Representatives from
ODFW, along with other agencies and volunteers, will provide fishing
equipment, angling instruction, aquatic education, prizes, and a hot dog
lunch for area youth from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anglers 13-years-old and younger can fish for free. A juvenile license
is required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All state fishing
regulations continue to apply.

"This event is specifically for the kids," said ODFW Biologist Rod
French. "We want to encourage kids as they learn to fish, and we hope
they enjoy an activity that provides lifelong recreation."

Mayer State Park is located approximately ten miles west of The Dalles,
using exit 76 off I-84. Bikini Pond is located at the west end of the
park. For more information contact The Dalles ODFW office at
541-296-4628.
