Fish and Wildlife Commission to meet in Salem

SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Jan. 5-6 at
the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Headquarters in Salem. 
The Commission will begin the Thursday meeting at 1 p.m. to review a
draft management plan for cougars. The briefing is expected to last
approximately 30 minutes, and will be followed by a public testimony
period. 

Other agenda items for Thursday include approval of two appointments to
the Restoration and Enhancement Board, possible changes to Oregon's
outfitter and guide tag program for guides who sell deer and elk tags,
and possible approval of the annual schedule of damages for commercial
fishing violations. 

Friday's meeting begins at 8 a.m. The agenda includes a review of
non-treaty spring chinook and winter steelhead management issues on the
mainstem Columbia River. Staff will ask the Commission for guidance as
they work to negotiate management agreements with their counterparts in
Washington for this shared fishery. 

The Commission is the policy-making body for fish and wildlife issues in
the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly. Agenda item exhibits

Public testimony is invited. Sign-up sheets will be available in the
hallway outside the meeting room the day of the meeting for persons who
want to testify on scheduled agenda items. Persons seeking to testify on
issues not on the formal agenda may do so by making arrangements with
the ODFW Director's Office, at least 24 hours in advance, by calling
800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044. 

All non-agenda testimony, also called "unscheduled testimony," begins at
1 p.m. and is limited to about six speakers for up to five minutes each.

Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the ODFW Director's Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044 at
least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
