STEP advisory committee to meet in Corvallis
SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Salmon and Trout
Enhancement Program (STEP) Advisory Committee (STAC) today announced a
Jan. 27-28 meeting in Corvallis.
The Jan. 27 meeting will be held in Corvallis, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
at ODFW's South Willamette Watershed District Office, 7118 NE Vandenberg
Ave. Members of the public are invited to attend.
The agenda includes review of STAC Mini-Grant proposals, reports on STEP
activities throughout the state, recognition of local volunteers and
other committee business.
At this meeting, STAC will review and provide comment to ODFW on six
STEP fish propagation projects. Four of the proposed projects rear and
release juvenile salmon for the Coos River fall chinook hatchery
program, one releases fall chinook in the Coquille Basin, and one rears
rainbow trout for a youth angling event in Eel Lake. The review begins
at 1 p.m., and the public is invited to comment on these projects.
A half-day meeting Jan. 28 is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Oregon Hatchery Research Center near Alsea. Stack members will tour the
recently dedicated facility, located at 2418 East Fall Creek Road, and
discuss STEP issues.
STEP was created by the Oregon Legislature in 1981 to provide a way for
volunteers to participate in the restoration of native stocks of salmon,
steelhead and trout. Since then, thousands of volunteers have assisted
Oregon's fisheries through their involvement in STEP, donating money,
materials, equipment, and countless hours of time and labor.
STAC makes recommendations to ODFW and the Oregon Fish and Wildlife
Commission on issues regarding STEP. The committee's 13 members are
appointed by the Governor and represent all areas of Oregon.
Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the Information and Education Division at 800-720-6339 or
503-947-6002 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
