Trout stocked for youth fishing event
TILLAMOOK - Young people interested in learning how to fish can find a
great angling opportunity March 25 at Loren's Pond in Tillamook.
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock approximately 1,350
rainbow trout for the event as part of the Youth Angling Enhancement
Program. ODFW provides rods, reels and tackle to young anglers who do
not have fishing equipment. Volunteers from the Tillamook Key Club will
be on-hand to help. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The program is made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the
Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with
ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the
state.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to the fun of
fishing and encourage participation in outdoor recreation activities,"
said Tracy Holton, ODFW Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program biologist.
"A lot of credit goes to the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation for all
their hard work and financial contributions to help make this event
possible."
Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers age 13 and under do not
need a license, while those 14-17 years must have a juvenile license.
All fishing regulations continue to apply for this event.
Loren's Pond is located off Chance Road in Tillamook, approximately 1/2
mile before Trask Hatchery, next to Loren's Drift Boat Launch.
