[OMS_MANAGERS] A-frame sign design guidelines

Hello,

Here is our recently updated information sheet. We sent it out with our
membership renewals. It will provide an introduction and background to the
discussions that I will be having with businesses that are out of
compliance. Here, this tends to be a pretty subjective topic, and one that
requires perseverance. We thought about permitting in order to have greater
control, but we felt that would require a lot of administration, and could
be perceived as less than supportive, at a time when our businesses need all
the help they can get.

Here is our standard

PORTABLE SIGNS IN RIGHTS-OF-WAY: Subject to the restriction of this
Resolution, portable signs may be permitted on sidewalks in the public
rights-of-way in the Neighborhood Commercial, General Commercial on East
Main Street, and Downtown Business zones, provided the following
requirements are met:

1)            A 48-inch pedestrian way shall be maintained;

2) The sign shall be freestanding and not attached to any
structure or plants;

3) The sign shall only be displayed during applicable hours of
operation;

4) The sign shall have a maximum display area of 6 square feet
per side;

5) The sign shall not exceed 4 feet in height and 2 feet in
width;

6) The sign shall be made of weather-resistant material such as
plywood, plastic, or Masonite;

7) The sign shall be weighted so it cannot be easily blown over
or moved; and

8) A portable sign permit is required; only one permit per
business license holder is allowed.

9) A portable sign shall be display only in front of the business
the sign represents.

Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] A-frame sign design guidelines

Hello all,

The City of Sandy recently established a committee to review the design of
A-frame (sandwich board) signs. Currently we have a required standard
A-frame design. Our goal is to allow for more creativity and flexibility in
design.

I'm looking for examples of design standards and review procedures from
other communities who conduct design review of A-frames.

Any input is appreciated.
