I would like to put in a special plea for the OK Theatre in Enterprise. The
OK Theatre is currently in second place but very close to first place! The
owners of the OK Theatre, Bill and Melisa Bush are very hopeful that they
will win and be able to restore the façade. The estimate they received was
$35,000 so even first place would require us to do some more fundraising.

The Bush’s are very community minded and have already done so much for
Enterprise. They are active in the fledgling Main Street organization.
Please visit their page on the “This Place Matters” part of the website for
the National Trust and then register and vote (hopefully for the OK Theatre)
The website is not very user friendly so if you have trouble, I can help get
you through the process.

Press Release: 2011 This Place Matters Community Challenge

Let the voting begin!

The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s This Place Matters Community
Challenge could mean cash for your favorite Oregon site! Oregon was boldly
represented with 18 nominees out of 260 candidates nominated by citizens
from 40 states and Guam. One-hundred nationwide finalists were selected.
FIVE Oregon sites made the final cut!!

Vote for your favorite Oregon site or a preservation project that inspires
you. Check out their This Place Matters photo, and VOTE for them so that
they can be one of three cash-prize-winning sites! Make sure to spread the
word and tell everyone you know to cast their vote for Oregon’s Places That
Matter.

For decades, Fireman's Fund and National Trust Insurance Services, as part
of the National Trust, have insured historic properties from the Newport
Mansions to the restored Victorian in your town. Together, along with the
National Trust for Historic Preservation, they are sponsoring the This Place
Matters Community Challenge to highlight the important role that historic
buildings and properties play in preserving our national heritage as well as
in preserving our environment. Prize monies of $25,000, $10,000 and $5,000
will go to the top three vote getters. Let’s let the nation know that
Oregon Places Matter!

Voting ends on June 30 – spread the word and make your vote count.
