National Trust "Preservation Fund" Grants Available for Oregon!
Time is running out! The next "Preservation Fund" deadline is October 1, 2011.
* The National Trust for Historic Preservation is inviting applications from nonprofit organizations with current 501(c)3 status, as well as local governments and public agencies, for its National Trust "Preservation Fund"/ NTPF grants<http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/find-funding/nonprofit-public-funding.html>.
* Matching grants from the National Trust Preservation Fund are awarded annually in three competitive rounds - February 1, June 1, and October 1 - and may be used for a variety of preservation projects such as feasibility studies or historic structures reports for endangered buildings and sites; landscape research and planning; fund-raising and media campaigns; and interpretation and heritage education activities.
* Actual "bricks and mortar" construction, repair and rehabilitation work are not eligible.
* The grants typically range from $2,000 to $5,000 and require dollar-for-dollar match.
* The next round closes on October 1st, 2011.
The application, as well as complete guidelines and instructions, is now available electronically (online). The direct link to the application login page is: https://www.grantinterface.com/nthp/Common/LogOn.aspx.
In order to enter information and submit an application for a preservation project:
* first, applicants will need to create a login and profile: and
* then, next, they will click "apply" to start the application process.
The application may also be accessed from our updated guidelines<http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/find-funding/foundant-documents/preservation-funds-guidelines-eligibility.html> page, close to the bottom of the page. Do let us know if you encounter difficulties and, as you move forward in conceiving a possible grant project, please help us learn as much as we can about your possible project, its timeframe, and how funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation might be used. Staff are happy to offer input and assistance in conceptualizing a project and strategizing to achieve a group's goal. We can also send you a training PDF, explaining the steps in the online application process.
We strongly encourage you to contact the Oregon Field Office<mailto:peggy_sigler at nthp.org> or the National Trust for Historic Preservation Western Office<http://www.preservationnation.org/western> @ <A href="mailto:wro at nthp.orgwro@nthp.org<mailto:wro at nthp.org> for assistance in identifying an appropriate eligible project prior to submitting an application. We like to easily grasp the particular work that funding from the National Trust might support -- as opposed to a long-range vision for an overarching project or vision -- and any budget ought to be concise, believable, and, preferably, limited to the actual portion of the work for which you might be seeking National Trust for Historic Preservation funding.
Next February 2012, you can also apply for the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors<http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/find-funding/grants/Cynthia-Woods-Mitchell-Fund-Application.doc>, the Johanna Favrot Fund<http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/find-funding/grants/Johanna-Favrot-Fund-Application.doc> and the next "Preservation Fund" so look ahead to potential projects.
* The Hart Fund was established in 2004 to assist small town preservation and revitalization initiatives around the country, with a focus on towns with population of 5,000 or less. It operates within the framework of the NTPF grants - same application, same eligibility requirements, same match requirements - a one to one match.
* With historic interiors, the Trust is always looking for creative projects that go beyond the usual activities. Please follow this link http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/find-funding/grants/Mitchell-funded.html to get an idea of some of the projects that have been funded such as paint analysis, the conservation of textiles, historic furnishing plans, and fundraising plans. So, if you know of a historic interior, including its architectural elements, finishes and furnishings, that needs to be surveyed, researched, interpreted, and/or revaluated prior to undertaking an interior restoration or historic rehabilitation, consider applying to the Mitchell Fund.
